Okay so I will try to make this short as possible. At four weeks DS had an upper GI which diagnosed him with reflux. He spits up after every meal, and on bad days he continues to spit up for the two or three hours in between meals. Also, from day one we have had major issues with gas and gas pains. He has had poops all over from yellow and seedy to basically green water to green and mucus filled. The green mucus poops seemed to have started after he got on Zantac though the doctor says there is NO correlation. The doctor told me it could be a dairy allergy. So I tried cutting dairy out of my diet for almost two weeks, and we have seen no improvement, though when he gets formula his poops start to look yellow and seedy again. So I know it is my breast milk causing it to be green. But I am not sure if it is an allergy or intolerance and I need to eliminate for longer, or if it is something else. I know that I have a lot more milk that he needs, and so I feed off one breast for several feedings in a row before switching in hopes that he gets the hindmilk. But I know he never "finishes" or "empties" a breast. Also my let down is very forceful (sprays out on its own). I try to let it spray off before relatching him.
Any insight? Could the green slime ffilled poop be something other than MSPI, such as oversupply? If so is there any hope of fixing it? DS is two months old now,
Re: Reflux? MSPI? Overactive let down? Oversupply?
As far as changing your diet goes, you need to be dairy free for a good month to give your systems time to clear. When cutting dairy doesn't fix all symptoms, then you cut soy and see how LO does after a couple weeks.
It sounds like the problem is oversupply, though. Especially if LO tolerates regular formula. I'd focus on block feeding to reduce your supply. Kellymom.com has info about it. You may need to feed from one breast for 12 hrs before switching to the other, if the problem is really bad. Just hand express the other side until you're comfortable, when needed. You may need to keep it up for a week or more until your supply reduces.
I'd work on that first. If you get your supply regulated and LO still has problems, then I'd revisit going dairy/soy free.
