Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Summer Infant Monitor just stopped working...

Hi Ladies...

My LO is 14 months old and all of a sudden my Summer infant monitor just completely died.  It will not show any picture on the screen and I can't get the handheld video to turn on at all.

I called the customer care service center but the woman I spoke with said that according to the model number on the back of my device it was manufactured in 12/2010 meaning that the 1 year warranty is up 12/2011.
She said if I can provide a copy of my babies r us registry stating it was purchased around May/June 2011 they can replace it for me.

However, Babies r us doesn't go back that far...
Any ideas on how I can get them to replace my monitor??  It was pretty expensive and I assumed I would get a much longer lifespan out of it...

Any ideas welcome.  TIA

Re: Summer Infant Monitor just stopped working...

  • I would call BRU customer service to see if they can provide some sort of documentation for you. Our original camera is 3.5 years old and it's fuzzy but works fine. We only ever had to replace the hand held charger.

  • We had a couple issues with their monitors, ( most of which were just user error for some reason).

One of the problems we had was that it just stopped working, like yours. I don't know if it was the outlet we were plugging it into or what.. But we switched the cord/jack that plugs into the wall to a random universal one we had, and plugged it into a different outlet and it has worked ever since. Might be worth a try while you see if you can get your hands on a old receipt from babies R us.

  • We have the BRU video monitor (manufactured by Summer) and are on our 3rd one in 7 months. The handheld part just keeps dying.

If you end up having to buy a new one I'd recommend getting the protection plan.

  • Ughh, ours died too.  They are complete junk.  Ours died 1 month after the warranty ran out, so the company wouldn't do jack for us.  I was so pissed.  We had assumed that spending $200 would mean it would last long enough to use on two kids.  I hope you can get a new monitor.  Maybe BRU will help you out, although they aren't known for their stellar customer service.

  • Our Day&Night died and we were part of that class action lawsuit, but I never filled out the paperwork because I had another new baby.

I replaced it with a BabyTouch.  So far, no problems.  I also bought the extended warrenty this time!

  • The same thing happened to me last month. They will send you a new battery and power cord for free if you ask. I would try that first, it didn't work for me. When I called back they said I could use their "customer loyalty plan" and get a new Best View for $119. That is what I did because I really liked the monitor and that was the best price for it. That's the best info I have.
  • Thanks everyone for your advice!  I am definitely going to be contacting BRU.

And also asking summer for a replacement cord!

It's such a shame bc these monitors aren't cheap and from the sounds of it, aren't so well made :(

     Oh well!

Thanks ladies, I appreciate your help
