Yeah, it's usually faster each time, but obviously every pregnancy is different, so you cant guarantee it :
My first was 8 hours from 1st contraction to birth, my second was 4 hours from water breaking contractions started 30 min later to birth. This time I'm thinking I better not wait around to go to the hospital!
My first was an induction that took 39 hours. The second was a prodrome of labor all day. By 4 PM the contractions became uncomfortable and frequent. She was born at 11PM. So definitely faster than the induction and also very different.
My doctor keeps telling me that. My first was 4 hours from water breaking to her birth. My doctor and peri keep telling me to get to the hospital as soon as my water breaks or contractions start
I was in labor with DD for just under 11 hours, and only pushed for about a minute and a half, even with an epidural. When I told the MW that, she was very quick to tell me "no dillydallying" and to get to the hospital once I started contractions, no waiting until they're x minutes apart. So I haven't experienced it, but the MW seemed to think it's true.

My bff just had her second babe this past weekend. Her first l & d took at least 12+ hours I believe. This weekend for her 2nd, she called her H to come home after dinner with his dad because she felt off, they got everything ready and got to the hospital at 9p, had the baby at 11:30p that night. In her case, it was true. Her first was also spontaneously born at 38 weeks 2 days, and her second was born at exactly 38 weeks.
My Ob seems to think second labors go faster as well, she also told me don't dilly-dally, get straight to the hospital. I'm skeptical that it will go as fast as they think it will as my first labor was 25 hours from water breaking to birth, and that was after being given pitocin for 6 hours to speed up the contractions that 'weren't strong enough' for my former Ob.

It's true for the women on my mom's side. My mom went into labor naturally with me and labored 6 hours. The doctor wouldn't let her leave the hospital at her 37 week when she was pg with my brother because he was worried she wouldn't make it to the hospital if she went into labor on her own. he broke her water and she had my brother in 1.5 hours. My grandma and aunt had fast labors too.
I was induced at 38 weeks with DS for pre-e, and labored 7 hours. I don't plan to dilly dally if I go into labor naturally with this one. I fully expect it to be quick.
So true! My 2nd and 3rd was fast, actually with my 3rd I delivered 5min after I got to the Hospital, if there would have traffic, she would have bee born in the car. This time, since I am number 4 They want me close by so i choose the hospital and dr office that is like 10mins from me.
My first was 6 hours, about, from 1st contraction to birth... about 7pm to about 1am. We went to the hospital around 9, and my water didn't break until around midnight... when they checked to see how dialated I was, and I was 8 or 9cm. My second was about 3 and a half hours, from waking up at 1am to birth at a little before 4am, again, my water didn't break until I was about 9cm dialated. My OB joked at my first appointment that she'd just check me into the hospital a few days before my due date to make sure I didn't give birth on the way! (Both #1 and #2 were born the morning after their due dates...) Hopefully, my labor will not be shorter... 3 hours was way worse than 6, as the contractions NEVER stopped (I did no meds, although with #2, it was so fast I couldn't have gotten them even if I had wanted them...)
