BLWers, rec your bib and spoon please!

Hey ladies!  I'm gearing up to start C on BLW (I'm a bargain shopper, so I like to give myself time to research and wait for sales).

I have a splat mat already, but I'm wondering what bibs you love.  Also, when you introduced a spoon, which spoon (or which spoon characteristics) did you get?

We're both excited to start.  She loves sitting in her high chair and munching on teething toys while we eat at the table.  And man, was she ever reaching for my spaghetti this weekend!  Poor girl.  Smelling spaghetti but not eating it is torture in my book.

  • Honestly I never found a bib I loved. If we were home I'd just strip DD down to her diaper. Much easier to clean up.

Currently going through our second deployment. Can't wait for Zoe to meet her daddy!

  • At home, no special bib (but take off special clothes) and any non-plastic baby spoon (we minimize plasic). When out, we use a Tiny Diner placemat and sleeved bib from Green Sprouts. When DS was tiny, we would keep a wooden olive spoon in our bag. As he grew, we would just use the spoons there.
  • I am truly an oddball but I never used a bib for LO. This is going to sound weird, but I don't like they way they look lol. So I would either just feed LO in his diaper, or just change his shirt after eating. We gave him lots of baths. Now that he's older he really doesn't get too messy unless it's something like spaghetti.

We bought a few toddler flatware sets from Ikea when he was about 11m and he likes those. Especially the forks lol he loves to practice stabbing his food.  MIL brought over some generic coated spoons and a few plastic spoons.  She couldn't wait to spoon feed him so even though we did BLW, he got spoon fed by MIL every time she saw him.

Honestly I don't think there's any special bib/spoon you need.

  • We use any kind of bib - the cheap ones made out of towel-like material generally work best for us and I just accept that they're destined to be stained. The waterproof or plastic-coated ones just mean that the food drops onto other surfaces, so I'm not a fan.

Spoon? We don't really use spoons with DD - she just uses her hands.

BTW: Once my daughter showed all the signs of readiness and was grabbing food off my plate, I stopped holding onto this idea that some how 6 months was the perfect time for every baby when clearly my baby wanted and was ready for food at 5 months. Up to you, but after prying food out of her hands once, I decided to just follow my instincts instead.

  • I love Bumpkin bibs.  They're big enough for full coverage and clean very easily.  And unlike a lot of the molded plastic ones, I can roll these up tiny and throw them in a pocket for when we eat out.

We use munchkin spoons, soft tipped and small.

  • Thanks ladies!  I wrote a huge reply yesterday but TB wouldn't post it, and now I'm lazy.  But, I appreciate the suggestions!

ETA shoot, except I had a couple extra weird questions.  1.  Does anyone use a crinkle cutter, and if so, which do you like?  And 2.  What do you wash baby's hands with before eating?  Just a wet cloth?  Or a soapy wet cloth?  Something else?

    Thanks again!
