No pants at grocery store

Would you take your one year old to the grocery store without pants? We ran into someone we know at the store and her daughter was wearing a top and a diaper. Of course, it's none of my business...but I'd go for a romper or shorts if it's hot. That's just me, though.

I wouldn't take my child out without pants on.  Even a onesie is not enough for me - it has to either be a one piece outfit that is obviously shirt & pants or seperates.  But that is just me.

Is it possible that maybe her daughter had a poop/pee accident and she didn't have extra clothes with her?

A onesie when he was a baby but never just a shirt.

He has gone shoeless frequently.  He always kicks his shoes off in the car & sometimes it's just easier to not put them back on & just stick him in the cart.

ETA: I agree with PP that perhaps there was a spill or accident of some sort & no change of clothing.

    I wouldn't, but perhaps she had a blow-out?

I don't judge too harshly though. It's not my style, but she's not naked and it's not cold outside, KWIM?

Were you at Wal-Mart?  I think that is the only place not wearing pants is ok.

No way. Yes they are young enough to get away with it but I think its kind of trashy. I saw a girl who was probably 2 at the store with just a shirt and a diaper a week or so ago. :/

Not intentionally, but if my toddler spilled/had an accident and I was at the store without a change of clothes, yup, I'd still go in.

I saw a kid at the grocery store around this time last year sitting in the cart in just a diaper.

I'm sorry, but even if he did just have an accident, I don't need anything from the store bad enough to take my kid in wearing only a diaper.

I did that with my 1.5 year old not too long ago. We had spent the day at the pool. My 2.5 year old got her shorts wet and I needed to grab something at the grocery store on the way home. I wasn't going to drive out of my way to get her shorts.

No, I joked with her about losing her pants and the mom said it was too hot out to bother with pants. This morning was cold so my DD had a long sleeve shirt, jeans, socks, and shoes...lol

The only time DS would ever be out and about without pants on was when he was a baby, was wearing a onesie, and was going to spend most of the time in his infant seat. Otherwise he'd be wearing shorts.

Meh. I like babies even in more than a onesie after about 6ish months, but I can't say a shirt and diaper is judge worthy either.

Like pp said, who knows what happened on the way to the store.

No.  I would think it was extremely strange as well.  Maybe she was in a hurry and completely forgot and didn't notice.  I've worn shirts inside out more than once lately.  lol-at least I had one on.

I still bring an extra outfit with me in case, however if I was out and didn't have any thing else for her to wear, then I might. It depends on how important the stuff I needed was.

Besides, I learned some time ago that I need to stop saying "I would never..."

    Ok, no.

I still have to wear pants when it's hot so the kid does too.

I wouldn't intentially.  But I also would let my daughter wear a blanket toga style to a casual restaurant... until that one time that I did because she had a massive blowout in the car on our way to dinner with friends.  We didn't realize we were diaperbagless until we went to change her and all we had in the car was an A&A blanket and so she went to dinner dressed as a college kid at a frat house party.

I would at that age in a pinch.  We cloth diaper if that makes any difference.

ETA: By in a pinch I mean not on purpose.  If we had a blow out and no change of clothes and I really needed something from the store I would.  But we live a half an hour drive from the nearest grocery store, so it would be a PITA to drive an extra hour over not having a spare pair of pants.

I also usually wear him in a carrier, so I think it wouldn't be too obvious if he wasn't wearing shorts since you cannot see above his knees once he's on my back.

The only time DD doesn't have pants or shorts on in public is when she is wearing skirts and dresses. So, yeah no I don't think I could do the just a onesie thing.

I have. My car was at the shop and wasn't ready so I called my mom last minute to pick me up from work. She watches DD. To thank my mom we went to Chipotle for lunch. My mom didn't know I would be doing that and since I called her last minute, she hadn't put any pants on DD.

Her shirt matched her cloth diaper if that makes it any better.

Intentionally taking your kid out with no pants on is kind of weird. It's not like a pair of cotton shorts are going to make you substantially cooler.

No.  And I would assume if I saw this that the child had had a diaper disaster or something.  I have learned to keep clothes in the car or diaper bag for such occasions.

I wouldn't, but I also try not to judge someone who does unless it's cold out and they were obviously under-dressed. We went to chilis the other day and someone had their kid in a highchair at least 18 months old in nothing but a diaper and I have to admit, I put one leg in my judgey pants.

    No

Yesterday I saw two little ones at the park wearing just onesies, no socks or shoes of any kind.  Not sure how old but they could both walk - I would guess between 10 months and a year.

I thought it was odd - I don't think I ever took DD in public in just a onesie and it wasn't super hot out - like mid-70s and not humid.  And for the no shoes - I know barefoot is technically better - but that park isn't super clean and not the best place to go barefoot.

Sat I took my DD down to the park where a festival was going on. Before we left I changed her diaper and she refused to put her pants back on. So we went in her onesie and sandals. Who freaking cares, really? That was not a battle I was willing to fight.

Nope.  I have a naked baby complex.  I'm not a fan of the just a diaper or diaper and no pants look.

no.  she has to be dressed.  how hard is it to throw a pair of shorts on the kid?
