Live an hour from where I work...where to go to hospital??

So I live an hour away from my job. I'm hoping to work right up until I am to give birth but do I select a hospital and doctor close to home or work??? (Yes, not only am I pregnant with my first, I called my dr to tell her and set up my appt and she says they no longer do ob stuff and to go elsewhere  - needless to say I'm looking for a new dr!) I work in the Warren area and live near Port Huron. I'm not a huge fan of the Port Huron hospitals so I was leaning towards closer to work (or in the middle) but need some advise! Thanks ladies!

  • I would find a new doctor first and then go off of what hospitals they deliver at and where your insurance covers.

My doctor only delivers at 2 of the hospitals so I have to choose one of them.  Since it is your first your labor may take longer but you need to have a place that you and your new doctor feels is assessable so you do not end up delivering in the car! Stick out tongue

  • There are a couple hospitals in between Warren and Port Huron.. but I would pick one and then find a doctor. Or find a doctor then use their hospital. I really want to deliver using a hospital with a NICU so we are using Beaumont Troy, I live in Macomb Twp. After picking my hospital, I found an OB from there. But there is Henry Ford at Garfield and 19 Mile, MClarren in Mt Clemons, and St Johns on 12 Mile and Hoover.

  • Not sure how far in Port Huron you are ...but my drive from New Baltimore/Chesterfield to Troy Beaumont varies from 35 min to 45 min....I-94 to Hall Rd.

My drive from New Baltimore to Warren is on average is 25 minutes I-94 to 696.

I agree with aholl02 ....you have Henry Ford, Mt Clemens and St. Johns ....Grosse Pointe Beaumont too might be an option for you?

There are OB's in Warren who deliver out of Royal Oak Beaumont and I would imagine St. Johns too.

And to put things into perspective for you...when I commute to Royal Oak Beaumont from New Baltimore/Chesterfield....I average about 40 minutes taking     I-94 to 696.

You have an advantage working in Warren and maybe going with an OB in Warren?

    Good Luck =)
