Poll: Basinet v. Crib - when to make the move (non-clicky)

If your LO started in a basinet in your room, are they still there or have you transitioned to a crib in a different room?

If not, do you know when you'd like to make the transition?

People keep asking me if I've moved Adelaide to her crib yet, and I hadn't even really thought about it. It's so nice to have her right there at my bedside if/when she wakes up at night. I know I would hear her in her crib, so I'm not worried about that aspect, but she's not disturbing me in our room, and it's so convenient for 5am feedings.

(okay...I'll admit that it's also nice to sneak a couple peeks at her sweet sleeping face when I'm reading before bed)

Re: Poll: Basinet v. Crib - when to make the move (non-clicky)

  • Asher still sleeps in his sleeper next to our bed.  We have talked about moving him but haven't done it yet.  I'm still breastfeeding and I like having him near.  Also, he has reflux and the sleeper is angled which is what the doctor recommends to help with the reflux.

  • I moved DS out of our bed and into his crib this week. But I also moved myself into his room. I figured i should transition him now while he could care less because it will be easier to remove myself from his room at 6 months than to move him from ours.
  • We are using a mini crib - Graco travel lite - in my room, no bassinet. It has 2 levels then turns into a play yard

  • We've started putting her in her crib for naps this week and will have her start sleeping in there at night in the next week or so. I would like to have her completely transitioned over before I go back to work in October.

  • My DD is 7 weeks as still sleeps in the bassinet next to the bed. Not sure when we'll move her - for all the same reasons you listed.

Also I just wanted to say i LOVE the name Adelaide! It was one of my fav's, but DH veto'd it :(   And Ruby was on the short list for us too - your DD has 2 awesome names IMHO.

We just moved DD into her room this week.  I didn't want to but I really have been sleeping better now that I don't hear all her noises.  She's doing great in there.

  • DS is still in his pack n play next to our bed at 8 weeks. I don't like getting up and moving around too much for his 2 middle of the night feedings, I have a hard time falling back asleep. So we will put DS in his crib once he starts STTN consistently.

  • We have DD in an Arm's Reach co-sleeper, which has been amazing.  It says you can keep them in there until they are 30 lbs or can push up onto their knees, which I am guessing will be about 5 to 6 months, right?

I try to put her in her crib for naps, but...

We have also gotten into the bad habit of holding her until she falls deeply asleep. I think I have created a sleep monster!

  • we moved him around 5 weeks- but we also have a video monitor so i can easily peak at him... not sure i would have been able to move him without the video monitor...
  • I'd say move LO when you and/or LO ready, or when LO outgrows the cradle/bassinet, whichever comes first.

With DS1 we moved him into his own room around 6 weeks and we all slept so much better after that (he had previously been in his crib in our room).

With DD she outgrew her cradle sometime between 2 and 3 months old probably, so at that point we moved her to her crib in her room.

This LO, DS2, just switched over to his crib from the cradle b/c he outgrew it (2 months old). But he's still in our room. He's going to have to share rooms with another LO when we move him out of our room, and I'm really nervous about that so I'm just going to avoid it for as long as possible :)

  • He's still in a bassinet in our room. I need to transition him soon as he's about to outgrow it, though. I will do it by twelve weeks.

  • We moved our DS to the crib last week at 8 weeks old. He just seemed so large and uncomfortable in the bassinet. Sure enough he started sleeping longer stretches in the crib, from 3 hours in the bassinet to 5 hours. Plus I hear him kicking and playing when he wakes up for a few minutes before he starts to get fussy. I think he likes all the room he has in the crib. I slept in the extra bed in his room for the first few nights but now I am in my bed and the monitors work perfectly fine.

  • With DD we moved her right after 4 month wakeful and it helped her sleep better.  I am guessing DS will move between three and four months also.  Right now it is easier to reach over and feed him vs. going to the nursery.

  • We started with the bassinet in our room but she didn't like it so we moved her to the napper in her graco pack n play. This week we moved her into her crib in her room and she loves it! I just play her mobile and rock her to sleep then place her in her crib. She'll be asleep for about 6-9 hours which is great! The first night she slept that long I checked on her because I was so used to getting up at night.

This!  I'm not sure if it's related, but DS started STTN about a week later.
