I bed shared w DS1 who is now 3yo. DS2 is now 4 weeks old. DS1 sleeps w daddy in the main bed. DS2 is w me in the guest bedroom. I did have him sleep the entire night in the RNP beside me, but as I got tired of actually staying awake while nursing him 3x a night , I just started side lying nursing w him after the 1st wake up. I bed shared w DS1, so this is nothing new to us. I actually really enjoy snuggling my babies . The concern is that DS2 will roll on to his tummy after he gets done nursing. DS1 would always roll to his back or stay on his side. Does anyone else's LO do this? It makes me a smidge nervous. Should I return to staying awake and putting back in RNP? DS2 has AR too, so I think maybe the belly sleeping helps his tummy
Hmm...the safe answer is probably that you should put him back on a harder surface.
The answer as to what I would really do...honestly not sure as mine didn't do that until more like 4 months when they had head control. If I didn't have an uber firm mattress, it would probably make me nervous. If I did, I probably wouldn't be concerned. Mine would sleep on their side facing me the majority of the night until they started tummy sleeping.
You're right, and ugh, it sucks to actually have to wake up all the way to nurse. I was just so shocked to find him on his tummy and thought it was a fluke. But he keeps doing it.
My son always sleeps on his stomach for naps. Now that he is a year he moves around a lot. At night he will normally sleep on his side or back, but he would sleep on his stomach when he was younger. Daddy was on night shift back then, so we had more bed space. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Co-sleeping and BFing gives you a sixth sense if anything is going wrong. (Thank you bio-chemical bond!) What I would worry about is the AR... have you tried cutting dairy out of your diet and seeing if it helps him?
Thanks I cut it out a week ago, so it should hopefully get better in a week or two. I also have an oversupply issue that I'm working on. AR sucks and I really don't want to give him meds if I don't have to.
I really like snuggling w my kids. I miss DS1 at night too. Can't wait til DS2 is bigger so we can all be back together again
We didn't really have the problem but I always worried about it when DS was that small. Honestly, I used a two-sided wedge, one of the smaller ones. It gave me more piece of mind until DS had more head control.
