Would you hate your parents?  

So let me preface this...my married name is a veryyy long (and hyphenated) Finnish name and is kind of hard to pronounce for many of my American friends/family....so it always concerns me that I be sure not to have a difficult to pronounce first name for our baby girl...so many basic American sounding girls names end up sounding very out of place with our last name

What do you think of the name Minka? Likely it would be Minka Grace as Graciela is my monther and grandmother's name...

I know there is one celebrity Minka Kelly (and that she just had a sex tape out which concerns some people apparently not me so much though)...but I found it on a Scandinavian name site so I think it has origins somewhere near Finland which I like as my husband's family is all still there. 

All honest opinions completely appreciated!!!

I do not think I would hate my parents over the choice of name. If it became a huge point of contention for her she can always change it as an adult. I think however, your name becomes part of you as you grow up. 

I do not follow celebrities so I have no clue who Minka Kelly is.

I think Minka is nice, a bit unusual for the States but I do not think anyone will have an issue with how to pronounce it. 

Do you love the name? Does it feel like a perfect fit?

I wouldn't hate my parents, I would grow right into the name. Have you tried nymbler.com ? Type in names you like, and it will give you some similar name options. Good luck !

Even though it is unusual in the US, I like it. I would not hate my parents if they named me that.

I think if it has to do with your heritage then it is appropriate.

Side note: Someone said something to this effect regarding one of my name choices. I thought it was ridiculous. Saying that my child would hate me if I chose this particular name (a name based in our heritage). My thought was...would kids really be that disgruntled at their parents? Seems odd to me. Even when I was a child and wondered what it would be llike to have a different name; I never once "hated" my mother for giving me the one I have. But then again I respect my mother.

Basically if it fits your family and seems right then you should use it. Good Luck!

I agree. It sounds like it would work well for your family. And while I've heard of Minka Kelly. I had no idea she had a sex tape. I don't think your LO's generation will know or care who Minka Kelly is.

No, it's a legit easy to pronounce name and related to your family history. It's much much better than Nevaeh or some ish like that. Now that I'd hate my parents for.

I think the name sounds nice and when it is seen with your last name it will make lots of sense to people. Just don't nickname her Minkie

I'd prefer Mina, at least in the states.  I do have a name I dislike.  I never have liked it.  Tried to get people to call me by my middle name (didn't work.)

I wouldn't think she would hate you for it. But with that being said...

I'm sorry, I might be the only one making this connection but when I hear Minka I think of a fur/mink coat. So I don't really like the name. It's not awful, but definitely nms.
