Toddlers: 24 Months+

At what age did you switch to a toddler bed?

Just wondering when it's coming. I'm not looking forward to it at all. From what i've heard it's usually around 2 1/2??

What is your experience?

  • 23 months, by her choice. We set up the bed in her new room with the intention of switching shortly after her birthday, but she wanted to sleep in it right away. We let her start with naps for a few days before moving at bedtime, and it was a very smooth transition.

  • We did it at 22 months. She wasn't necessarily "ready," but we had to do it b/c DD#2 was arriving and we only had one crib that didn't have drop sides (long story).

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. In fact, she transitioned right away with absolutely no problems.

  • 27 months.  The hardest mile stone so far!  He cried every night for 5 min for 8 weeks.

  • Went from crib upstairs to full size bed in the basement at 26 months and not a single problem...actually slept better being able to move all over!

  • DS- 3.  He loved his crib.

DD- never :)  She is a wild thing and will probably go from crib tent as long as humanly possible to mattress on the floor.

  • Just switched at 27 months because she was trying to jump out of her crib, so I had no choice.  She initially did not like it--it took a few days to get used to it.  Fortunately, she still hasn't realized she could just get out of the toddler bed.
  • We switched DD to a new big girl room, complete with twin bed, the day after her third birthday. We wanted baby #2 to have the nursery and crib, but didn't want DD to feel like the room was being taken for her so for her 3rd bday we made a really big deal about her new room and new bed. I thought it was going to be horrible, but her bedtime has greatly improved since then. I think at first it was just the excitement of a big girl room, and then it just turned into habit that she went to bed nicely. Like another poster said, its almost like she doesn't realize she could just get out of bed : )

  • DS is 2.5 and still in his crib. He loves his crib so I'm in no hurry to switch it. He sleeps in a twin bed at my mom's house so I'm not too worried about the transition. We just haven't made the switch yet. Not sure when we will...
  • I voted 2 years or younger....  but I have 3 kids.

Alex was 25 months  when we moved into our house and she got a twin bed.  She had been in a PNP for 8 weeks at MIL's house.

Taylor was 20 months when we got bunkbeds and she refused to sleep in her crib anymore.

Dylan was 25 months when we returned from vacation and moved her to the bottom bunk.

The transition with Alex was rough, but we moved 1000 miles, lived with Gma, got our own place and had a baby all in 3 months.

  • DD1 turned 3 in May and is still in a crib. She loves it!  She says she doesn't want a big girl bed because then all of her friends (stuffed animals) would fall onto the floor. DH and I don't argue. She yells for us if she needs to go potty during the night, which rarely happens. We don't want her wandering around while we're asleep so we don't mind the occassional wake up to take her potty.

  • We switched my daughter at 15 months when she started climbing out of her crib.

My son is 15 months now but still in his crib... I'm sure he'll be in it for at least a few more months.

  • At 26 months we moved her to a full sized bed.

  • We put DS in toddler bed at 16 months, pretty early, but he did great.  Now (next month he will be 3) we are moving him to a big boy bed.

  • DD is 2 now and I don't want to ever put her in a toddler bed! I'm afraid she'll wander around the house, fall down the stairs, etc.  Also her bedroom door doesn't shut (old doors) so I don't even know what we would do when she moves to a toddler bed.  Plus I'm not ready to put the baby in the crib yet (she sleeps next to my bed in a pack n play still).

So yeah, not sure when this is all going to happen!

  • My DD is 2.5 and we haven't yet. I've been thinking about it, but DD loves her crib. She has never once in her life even tried to climb out and bedtime is a breeze in our house, so I don't want to mess with a good thing.
