I called my obgyn this week. I am concerned that I am not ovulating. I haven't had a positive OPK in 2 months. I am also temping but not sure if I am detecting an O or nor. The nurse said that in 17 years of working in this field, she doesn't feel the OPK's work that well and not to put that much stock in them. She said that I should come in for day 3 labs. They will also X-ray my ovaries to see what is going on. I'm assuming that many of you have already been through this first step of tests. Any advice? If I start my period when expected, I will be out of town on CD3 so I will have to wait another month before going in.
Re: Day 3 Testing?
If you are doing 3 day bloodwork and are going to be in the US, your doctor's office can likely arrange for you to have your blood drawn wherever you are and your results sent to your doctor. There are 2 big labs with this kind of network, but I can't remember the names. I did this for my 3 day b/w.
With the OPKs, it can be easy to miss your surge. The best time (according to my doctor) is early afternoon.
Good luck!
OPK's generally work fine and I don't know what your nurse is talking about. But for some women, you need to test twice a day to catch the surge. So, you could just be missing it if you are testing only with FMU. I usually get a positive in the afternoon.
Day 3 labs will test your ovarian reserve (FSH/E2). I think you may be getting a transvaginal ultrasound to look at your ovaries to look at your antral follicle count (how many resting follies at baseline). You don't ex-ray ovaries. You can get an HSG which is an ex-ray and procedure to see if your tubes are open. But that is not done on Day 3.
You have to have the FSh/E2 and AFC done on CD2-4 or it doesn't count. You would need to wait until the next month if you can't go at your next period.

Thank you Ladies! I thought the term X-ray seemed strange and figured it must be the ultrasound.
