I am going to a diaper swap next week and I need about 6 diapers. I bought some used fuzzibunz and bumgenius and they are really at the end of their life, the elastic is shot.
I was planning on buying 4 small fuzzibunz because we've had good luck with them, but now I am wondering about Flips. Do they work as newborn covers because they are OS? I need more covers for my NB stash so that might let them work double duty in the future. Also, are they a good nighttime diaper? Do how do the inserts stay put, can I use any of the inserts I currently have or will I need different ones? Are they daycare friendly? Like I said, lots of questions, tell me how you use them and how they've worked for you.
TIA
Re: Talk to me about Flips
I have Flips and use them with the Flips inserts (both kinds) as well as with regular prefolds. So if you have prefolds or non-microfiber inserts, you can use the Flips covers with them. The inserts stay put just fine, though I sometimes snappi my prefolds. I find that they are too trim to use over my WAHM fitteds.
DD is a heavier wetter, but we've gotten by overnight by layering a Flip organic under a Flip staydry insert. The inserts were soaked, but no leaks.
While I've heard some people use them on their newborns, Flips would not have fit DD as a newborn and she is a medium-to-large baby. They are very wide in the crotch. I didn't start using them until about 8-10 weeks (but I had a decent stash of nb and S covers, so I didn't really try before then). If you're looking for an inexpensive NB cover, I recommend Proraps Newborn size.
It really depends on your daycare. Some DCs require that the entire diaper & cover be changed each time. If that is the case with your provider, then it would be better to go with pockets or AIOs since you would not be able to take advantage of reusing the cover with Flips.
