How old is too old...

to take DS into a public women's restroom with you?  I don't have the answer to that question but I think the 12 year old in there this afternoon with his mom was a bit too old!  I can understand if he was impaired and needed help, but he was able to wash his hands by himself and was carrying on a normal conversation when I walked in.  And if that was the case, please use the family restroom right next to the women's room.  I guess this just made me a little mad and also got me wondering, at what age will I start to leave my DS outside?  What do you think?

Are you SURE he was 12?!  Because if so, that is RIDICULOUS.  Way past the appropriate age, if you ask me.  I'm thinking it will be place-dependent, but 6-7?  I don't know...my oldest is not quite 3, but he won't be in a women's restroom when he is going through puberty.  Nope.

I think there are several factors that a parent would consider when trying to decide if their child can be left unattended in a public place.  If I felt uncomfortable leaving my child, and I had no one else with me to watch my child, I would bring him to the restroom with me.  There are many 12 year old boys and many younger boys who look 12 who are not ready to be left unattended.  If he was well behaved and not peeking into the stalls, I don't see a big problem with it.  If there is a "family" restroom available, I would hope that a parent would choose that option over a women's restroom.

Yikes,12 is waaay too old, IMO!! I'm not sure what age DS will be when I stop bringing him in but I can tell you it will be well before 12.

I dont know how old is too old, but 12 is way to old. That is gross and inappropriate! That mom is too overprotective and her son should say he won't go in there!!
