How long did it take you to get pregnant after going off the pill?

Hi!  Im Chrissy and Im new to this website as well as trying to conceive.  Im not a mom yet, but My husband and I started trying on Jue 30th (that was the last BC pill I took).  My question is- How long did it take you to get pregnant after going off the pill?  I would love to hear your stories!!

With my 1st DD it took 4 months, we werent having sex on a regular basis.

With this one (i'm 10wks) it took only 1 month. I was suprised that it happened so quickly!

Also, not sure if you know, but there is a trying to get preg board too.

Both times I got off the pill, waited one month, tried after that and got a bfp.  So for DS, I finished my pills in early July and got my bfp towards the end of August.  This time, my last pack of pills ended in mid May, I got my bfp in mid July.

I have suuuuper long cycles, but we had been trying since September. I had one miscarriage in February. It took me two cycles to get pregnant that time, and two cycles to get pregnant again.

Positive pregnancy test (Big Fat Positive or something close to that) and DS is Dear Son.  There's a Bump Board Glossary on the left of your screen if you scroll way down and *I think* that's where all the explanations of abbreviations are.

It took me two cycles with my first pregnancy after stopping the pill and eight cycles with my second pregnancy after stopping the pill.

I finished my Loestrin pack in February. I got my first (and ONLY) cycle at the end of March. I conceived the first week of June. 4 Months. After my cycle didn't come in April, I took numerous tests from then until the last week of May. All negative. We went on vacation the first week of June. The week after we got back I was annoyed that my cycles weren't coming back, so I scheduled an appt. The Saturday before the appt., I took a test just so I could tell my OBGYN that I was for sure not pregnant....but it was positive! I took 5 more tests just to be sure! lol

I got pregnant the first cycle off my pill and I was on it for 7+ years!  We didn't think it would happen that quick, but are definitely grateful!

I went off the pill at the end of October. Got pregnant at the end of December (found out early January) and then miscarried a week after I got the BFP. I then got pregnant at the end of May/early June and I'm just over 10 weeks. So the answer is: A total of about 7 months to get a pregnancy that is so far (fx) sustaining itself.

It took me 27 cycles, over two years  But hey, I'm pregnant now! (I have PCOS, so my story isn't necessarily one to go by.  But, it's important to know that everyone is different and it can be as short as one month or as long as a year to regulate after going off the pill.

 

Ultimately, though, I would strongly encourage you to start charting right away and read the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility.  It provided so much insight and a ton of useful info for me and my Dr over the course of our journey.

I went off my BC after my last period in April and got pregnant right away.  I also have PCOS but have been on treatment for a year before TTC.

With #1, I had been off about 6 months (only about 4 cycles though, they are really long when left to their own devices). We used ovulation kits on 3 cycles to help figure out when I would ovulate since my cycles were so weird.

With #2, I had started a new pack of pills (about 4 days in) when we decided to start trying and I stopped taking them. I used an ovulation kit that cycle and got pregnant that month. 

With #3, I was on the pill but I am not the best at taking them at the same time of day each day, apparently

Went off the pill at the end of March got BFP on July 19th. After going off the pill (20 years on, no breaks - not kidding) it took 6 weeks for my cycle to return then it went right to 28 days like clock work. We were using OPK's (ovulation predictor kits). I feel pretty lucky that at 38 years old  and 20 years on the pill we got prego so quick. Still kind of shock actually.

I don't want to be Debbie downer, but it took me 18 months. I definitely would read Taking Charge of Your Fertility--it can really explain your body in an east to understand and helpful way. It can also help you pinpoint if something is wrong (like not ovulating) and enable you to go to a doctor with armed with knowledge that hey can use to help you.

I went off the pill at the end of jan, and got pregnant the end of may...during my 4th cycle.  It was my first month using fertility friend, so I highly recommend that.

I agree with this response. Everyone is different. One of the nurses at work and his wife have been having trouble since she stopped the pill b/c she has really irregular cycles. For me, I took the pill before my daughter was conceived then stopped. It took one month. That's the only time I've been on BC pills.

 

 And side note...if you want warm responses, I'd definitely stick to this board over the ttc board.

I think, besides any medical issues like PCOS, or health issues like being overweight, or bad habits such as smoking, and your age

the number of years you have been taking the pill has quite a large impact on how soon you will conceive. Normally the longer you have been constantly on the pill, the longer it usually takes to conceive.

 In my case I didnt have medical problems, I wasnt overweight, but I had been a regular smoker and moderate drinker for 15 years. Id also been taking the pill for as long. And I was 34 yrs old.

 I stopped taking the pill at the start of August and fell pregnant at the end of December that same year.and I thought that was super fast. I was expecting it to take about a year.

This time round I didnt go back on the pill after the birth of our son -via csection- as I knew we wld try for the next one as soon as the Dr gave us the ok. We got our BFP the first time of trying.

It took me a year and a half to get pregnant with DD. This go round took 11 months after having and IUD removed ( I don't recommend the IUD anymore after the ER Visit I had).

i had always heard the rumors about if you're on the pill for a long time, it will take you a while to get pregnant... WRONG! 

I was on the pill for 8 years and got pregnant 3 months after getting off - We wanted to start our family next year, and since i had been on it so long, i didn't want to hurt my chances of getting pregnant when we started trying... well no worries there!  I was traveling a lot during those 3 months so DH and I didn't have sex regularly...I was also working out 4-5 times a week, so i was probably the healthiest i've ever been and I was taking prenatal vitamins, so it was like the perfect storm!  We weren't trying, but we weren't preventing, and now we're expecting out first baby in march and couldn't be more excited!

We've had quite the journey... last birth control pill until positive pregnancy test = 6 years 5 months & 5 days.

We waited a couple of months after going off the pill to start trying.

Pregnancy #1 first month of trying. (ended in MC)

Pregnancy #2 4 months after d&c (daughter born Aug 2010)

Pregnancy #3 first month of trying

I came off the pill March 27, and I got my BFP on May 30. I only had one period in between, so I would say I got KU on my second cycle.  We used pre-seed, which is a fertility friendly lube that mimics fertile CM.  I can't say that definitively did it, but I do believe it helps giving those little guys optimum swimming conditions!

I went off my BC in JAN which I had been on for about 14 years.  I had planned to go off the BC four months before TTC b/c I wanted my cycle to return to normal and I also wanted to avoid the possibility of hyper fertility. From what I read, which does not make it right or wrong, this can sometimes lead to etopic or miscarriages. There is no confirmed link but it has been suggested.  I also found in my research that how long you have been on the pill does not affect how long it will take your cycle to go back to normal.  With most BC pills, once you stop they are out of your system within a copule of days.  Again, just what I read...

With DD it took 4 cycles after getting off the pill. Don't be surprised if it doesn't take that long or if it takes longer for you. It can take a while for your periods to regulate after BC.

I was on the pill for 12 years before stopping in January 2011. We didn't start TTC until November 2011 and it took us 8 cycles to get pregnant.

About 3 1/2 months. I was on the pill for over 12 years too. I have issues with iregular periods and took fertilaid for  the last 1 1/2 months and got pregnant. I didn't even get a period, as soon as there was an egg my hubby got it. I call him "sharpshooter" now..lol

I had been on the pill for a while so I thought it would take a little while to get pregnant. I took my last pill pack in May, my LMP was June 10th, and we got our BFP on July 6th!  Everyone is different though.  My DH and I have truly been blessed. We are very much looking forward to welcoming baby #1.
