Who takes folgard?

I have 2 MTHFR mutations, so i'm going to start taking folgard. It has 2.2 mg of folic acid in it (+Vit B6 and 12). My other prenatal has 800 mcg- so that will be about 3 mg of folic acid. The pharmacist told me that'd kind of in the upper limit of safe, but that it will not be harmful to me.

I plan on asking my RE about this, but was just curious what you all did as far as continuing your prenatal + folgard.

Thanks!

Re: Who takes folgard?

  • I take the 2.2 mg Folgard twice a day, plus a rx prenatal.  This is what both my RE and OB have wanted, and neither mentioned any potential problems with getting too much.  Although, I did wonder initially if I was OD'ing on folic acid, lol.  How are things looking for y'all, still looking to cycle soon?  Many good thoughts coming your way!!

  • I also take Folgard + a prenatal.  I asked my RE about it and he assured me it's fine.

  • I take folgard and prescription prenatal with extra folic acid.  The idea is that with the MTHFR mutations you don't correctly absorb folic acid/B vitamins so for a normal person it might be the upper limit of safe but for us we are probably only absorbing what a normal person would from a smaller dose.
