Baby Names

Boy sibling name for Charlie (Charles)

We just found out today that we're expecting our second boy! And I'm at a complete loss for names.

My oldest son's name is James Charles Robert McLastName. We call him Charlie (James is a family name passed down in my husband's family, but we opted to call him by his mn).

I would love some ideas. My husband and I both love older names. Classics, but not names that you hear all the time. Forgotten favourites, if you will. I don't like any of the names that I grew up with (ie Matthew, Michael, Jonathan, Mark etc.). A couple on our list are Henry and Samuel (Sam).

TIA!

  • How about:

Thomas, Richard, Edward, Arthur, Gregory, Kenneth, Lewis, Martin, Walter, Lawrence, Stuart, Ronald, Donald, Theodore, Douglas, Warren?

You can also try going to the SSA website and looking up a year- 1920, 1930, 1940, etc- and checking out the top names to see if any there appeal to you.

  • Henry and Sam both sound like fabulous choices...
  • When I saw the title of your post, I thought Henry or Samuel.  Great minds!

  • I like Silas.  It means of the forest, and also has biblical roots of some sort.
  • Love the name Samuel if only it wasn't already a family name here.  I think it sounds great with Charlie.

Clark was in our final 3 names for Charlie! Clearly you've picked up on our style.

  • I think we have the same taste in boy names.  My son is Andrew and if I didn't have a new nephew named Charlie that would probably have been my top boy name pick for this baby.  I think you have some great options.  I like Samuel (if only my husband liked it...)
