Did you know you were pregnant before a test was positive?

Re: Did you know you were pregnant before a test was positive?

  • I was super surprised. I actually had nausea and sore boobs every other month I was TTC other then the actual month I got pregnant... I was craving soup and salty stuff but I just figured that was the PMS kicking in. After 10 months of TTC, about 12 DPO I got a VERY faint line... my husband told me I was going crazy and nothing was there. I went to the doctor that Monday and their pee on a stick test came back negative. It actually took a blood test that Friday before I knew for sure!

I wouldn't go too crazy looking for symptoms and stuff... Every month when I thought I was pregnant for sure it just lead to a huge disappointment if it doesn't happen right away.

    Good luck! :)

  • Hubs and I have been practicing fertility awareness since about eight years ago. We considered starting our family this year but we had decided to wait. So this baby was sort of a whim and a surprise!

My AF was usually late though my O is always on time. I was used to it, but I would always get nervous like maybe I might be pregnant b/c so many people tell you how fertility awareness doesn't work as a BC method and I am insecure. One time it was so late I was sure that I was preg. I went to get a blood test. Negative and my AF came to visit that day.

(BTW, Fertility Awaeness does work if both of you are committed to it, it worked for us for eight years. The only reason we are pregnant now is b/c for one night we wanted to be open to a baby in our lovemaking. It felt right and we did it and no regrets, but if we hadn't felt that way and continued on with Fertility Awareness, we would still be childless.)

This time, my AF was getting later and later. I knew we "weren't careful" the day of ovulation but for some reason this time I didn't care. I wasn't worried about it like I usually am. AF was ten days late and about a week into when I start to worry about her. I was so nonchalant about the whole thing. No symptoms except normal AF symptoms up until the day I tested. AF was due on the 20th and on the 30th I was having trouble finishing my breakfast. I took a nap (I never do that) and my feet swelled up in the heat. I tested that night and for three mornings after. All were positive.

Before that there was no indication. This is my first so maybe next time I will read the signs? We'll see. Good Luck TTC #2!

  • The dog started to follow me around everywhere. Usually she is pretty lazy and thinks she is a cat and spends most of her day basking in the sun. 2 weeks ago she started trailing me everywhere, to the bathroom, to the shower, all over the house. She did the same thing with my other 2 pregnancies so I thought i better test. BFP!!

  • I knew I was pregnant before I took my at-home pregnancy test. I was just really sick to my stomach, I had a high sense of smell, and obviously I missed my period. But I just knew in the back of my mind that I was pregnant.
  • I definitely knew. I was 100% sure both times before I even took the test, and simply took the test to prove to everyone else that I really was!
  • No symptoms at all for me. I am having some cramping now.

  • I had a feeling...which is why I tested so early. I didn't really have symptoms that were different than typical period symptoms, but I just felt different. And I was watching my temps like a hawk...

  • I knew before I took the test.  It was still 2 days before my AF was due, and I just felt different... Kind of lightheaded, strange feeling like I was walking around in a dream.  I took the ptest as soon as I got home from work & I knew I was going to be a BFP before I even looked at it.  I'm not sure what made me relate that feeling to being pregnant (after all, I've had that feeling lots of times before).  But for some reason, I just knew. :). Not everyone feels it tho, so it's not something I'd advise someone to be on the lookout for or anything.

  • I had my normal PMS symptoms-tender/swollen breast, a bit of cramping but I did notice that my ankles seemed swollen a couple of times. I was also feeling extremly tired early in the day which is not normal for me. The day before AF was due I was EXTREMLY tired, feeling in a cloud. I thought it was maybe because my allergies were acting up. I also had lower back pain but that's normal for me when AF is around. Even though all these things would say it's just AF, I just "felt" different this time around. Oh and the other strange thing, even before my "PMS" symptoms, I was continuously burping---even belching at times!! VERY unlike me and so embarrassing but this also made me suspicious even though I never even knew this can happen when women become pregnant.

Needless to say, all was confirmed with a test--which says to wait two minutes for results but my results came up IMMEDIATELY. It was so weird but very exciting at the same time.

     Best of luck to you!

  • At 3 weeks I just had a feeling I was I felt like there was something different going on in my body. I had regular AF like symptoms but when the day came there was nothing so then I knew I was because I had never had a late period. Every day for about a week my bf and I talked getting a home pregnancy test and when we finally did we took 4 just to be sure. We had 4 positives! This is my first pregnancy and it still amazes me how well I knew my body enough to tell something was happening.
  • I had no idea! I thought I would since my mom said she knew almost immediately, but I had no idea, and my symptoms didn't start until weeks after I found out. I thought I was pregnant the first month we were trying, but it turns out that those symptoms people attribute to pregnancy can also be caused by going off birth control. Just keep that in mind when evaluating how you're feeling--also that you'll be looking for those symptoms and can talk yourself into thinking you have them. Good luck and baby dust! :D

(I did however know that I was having a boy long before the ultrasound confirmed that feeling)

  • Yes I sure did. I way lying in bed with MH one night and quickly got up and said, "I think I'm going to take a pregnancy test." MH asked why. I said, "Just because I feel like it." I was 10 dpo. I peed and waited impatiently sitting on the side of the bed with my back to MH. After a few minutes I stared hard, held the stick up to the light and saw the faintest pink line. MH asked, "Well, what does it say?" I replied, "It says I'm pregnant, but I feel like I already knew." I didn't have any pregnancy symptoms at all then (or for a few weeks), I just had this crazy urge to POAS.

  • I had positive thoughts every cycle. the cycle I did get prego was the first I had actually ovulated in possibly years, so I was nauseous but I thought that coulda been my body's intolerance to all hormones

DH says he knew the minute we finished the BD that he knew I was gonna get pregnant

This!  Same for me.  I just knew and felt that something was different.  We had been trying and I really felt that things were different.

  • I hadn't had a visit from AF in two months, but I'm really irregular, so this wasn't anything abnormal. My boobs were a little sore, and I was having this intermittent, dull cramping for about 5 days before I decided to test. I think part of me knew that I was pregnant, but the other part was refusing to believe that I could be because I didn't want to get my hopes up.

  • i thought i wasn't after taking two negative tests at 11 and 13 DPO.
then, the day AF was due my boobs were suddenly sore. i didn't start that day, so i took another test the next morning and there was my BFP!

sore boobs and constantly peeing were my only symptom until MS started at about 6 1/2 weeks.

  • Most definitely !

All three of my baby's before any preganancy test, i knew i was already expecting ! Its a gut feeling...i think...

Also i've kept each baby's gender a surprise so far, and have had my own suspensions previously and they all have been right ! :) Call it mother's intuition!

  • Yes! i dont know how to explain it, but i just knew i was pregnant. Maybe it was because i know I was about to be upset with lol.
  • Yes, I absolutely knew, even a week before I tested, and I tested about 4 days before my period was due and got a positive...

The reason I knew was my birthmark.. I have a rather large port wine stain on my chin, and when I was pregnant with my daughter, a bump grew on my chin at the edge of my birthmark, it started out looking like a zit, but just got big and stayed that way, ugly red bulgy ball. So gross looking. After I had my daughter, I went to a dermatologist to have it removed. It was vascular in nature, so relating to my birthmark, and he said it was most likely caused by the shift in my hormones during pregnancy.

The funny thing is that it didn't happen during my previous pregnancy, which was a m/c. Which makes me feel like this one is going to go fine.

The bump came back the week before I tested, and I told FI about the bump and how it was weird that it was coming back and that I was probably pregnant. And I am!

  • I was very tired. I mean, VERY tired. I didn't know the fatigue would be such a big part for me. Not fun

Then of course I had headaches, and my appetite went away for a while.

I didn't get sick until after the first month. And by then I was late a week, so I knew. But the first month I did suspect it because of the changes in my energy and the way I was eating. It just wasn't normal.

  • Nope.  Knew that it was a possibility, just didn't think it was going to happen.. wish I did think like that tho because man I drank ALOT on St. Pattys day.. (I took the test about a week later).. and I mean ALOT.. like 8 irish car bombs (to start..) anways.. my red flags were 1- acne.. I never get acne and I got mad pimples in the few weeks before I took the test and of course 2- the missed period.  I knew the day I missed it I was, but waited until 3 days to be sure.  Sure enough..

Also just wanted to mention, I "had a feeling" it was a girl for the first 20 weeks and sure enough it was a boy so that instinct doesn't work either.

    Due 11/24/12
  • My symptoms were so textbook, it was funny!

Vivid dreams, sore boobs, implantation bleeding that lasted about 2 days (like a very light period), fatigue (there were a few days where hubby would find me curled up on the couch just giving my eyes a "break" which NEVER happens because I hate napping) ..  and then obviously no period the following month.

It's fun to read about everyone else's early symptoms :)

  • I wasn't shocked when the test said positive. I suppose part of me knew and was expecting it. Got blood work done several days later just to double check.
  • My dog pawed my laptop and I ended up here, so I figured I'd comment since I'm quite a bit beyond my 1st tri. This is our first child, and we were trying. At about 7dpo I was at a rehearsal and was standing with a group of women, and I noticed my water bottle was empty. I made a funny face, and a lady asked what was wrong. I said "I NEVER drink this much... and I'm still thirsty! What is my deal!" She told me that that was her first symptom with all three of her kids, and that she bet I was pregnant. It was still 3 days too early to test, but sure enough, 3 days early, BFP! I was guzzling water like mad for weeks. I didn't have any nausea or sensitivity to smell or anything until a few weeks later than that.

  • I had a strong feeling (and thought if I wasn't pregnant something was wrong with me).  I was fatigued beyond belief, excessively thirsty (I already drink a ton of water but it just wasn't enough), and then the cramping began-worse than the cramping I experienced with periods/PMS while on BCPs. I had only been off BCP two months.  Tests kept coming back BFN, then I took another on a day when I was beyond tired.  I felt pretty nonchalant about it, and then boom, BFP.

  • My feeling was suddenly I was throwing up everywhere.
  • Yes!  I would say I was 90% sure.  I had a gut feeling, for starters.  I also had a dream that I was pregnant and could feel my pregnant belly, shortly after I conceived - I have never had a dream like that before, and it felt real.  In addition, I felt a "pulling" feeling in my lower abdomen for a few days.  I thought perhaps it was psychological, but I didn't think so because it felt so real and would happen at random times.  I also had a little bleeding, although the timing seemed early for "implantation bleeding."  I had slight nausea one morning, a strong sense of smell another day, and my boobs started to feel tender a day before I took the pregnancy test.  It was basically a random hodge podge of symptoms, varying day by day... and a "sense" of what was happening... enough to get me very excited!  So thrilled to be pregnant!  Good luck to you!
  • I had all possible symptoms when i was not pregnant. But this time i didn't notice anything different but it turned out to be positive after 5 long years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Yes. And No. I was about five days late when i took the test. Though I had been late before, I hadn't ever felt the need to take a test a pregnancy test. I would just wait and lo and behold, my period would start. I usually feel super bloated and crampy a day or two at most before my period starts and this holds true even when i am going to be late so for me to feel like I am about to start for five days was highly unusual. The only symptoms I really had were cramping (not as intense as menstrual cramps but more frequent), slight bloating, enlargement of my breasts (no aching though), and a bit of fatigue. Like I said though, what felt different was that I was having these symptoms days and days before I started my period. That alone was what made me take a test and even then, I wasn't convinced I was pregnant, just that my body was acting weird and that this was one of the possibilities. I am a bit over five weeks now and still waiting for the nausea (hopefully it doesn't feel the need to show up way late in the pregnancy while I'm huge and uncomfortable anyway). So rather than say "I knew I was pregnant," I would say "I knew something was different this time." As it turns out, I was right. Hopefully this helps.
  • My husband was doing an inpatient PTSD clinic in seattle in June, and he talked to a man that had visions from God. The man told him that we would get pregnant before September 1st. I was sceptical because we have been having unprotected sex for over 3 years now and hadnt gotten pregnant. We even got tested to see if it was possible like a year ago. BUT... I took a pregnancy test today, September 5th, and it was positive! :D
  • I had super, super sore boobs from about 6/7DPO and was extremely tired. I was pretty sure I was pregnant before I got my positive at 9DPO.

  • I had a strong sense of it, and we planned and tried, happened the very first time we tried! 10 days later took a test and yes pregnant. I tried not to let myself believe i was, because if i wasnt i didnt want to be disappointed, but maybe it was the bloating, and the constant peeing through the night, and lack of sleep! haha which i still have the same symptoms now! I hope the best for you!!!
  • I didn't have a feeling, but I was ordering sushi right before I missed my period, and the sushi chef told me that the salmon "would be good for the baby." We were trying so I hoped he was right. Lo and behold, here I am three weeks later!

  • I was convinced I wasn't pregnant. We had IF problems, and the IF meds I was taking would make my boobs hurt. My boobs hurt for a little longer than normal and my period was late, so I got my hopes up, tested, and got a BFN. My period still didn't come for a few more days, and I didn't think much more of it because I was used to late periods and BFNs (thank you, PCOS). DH kept saying I was pregnant, and I kept insisting I wasn't. I finally decided to take another test to shut him up. That time it was a BFP.

  • My lower back was really sore and my boobs were hurting pretty badily, both of which I've experienced with AF before...I remember telling my coworker "I really hope my period comes soon because I am miserable." And then 2 days later, I just felt like I should take a test...so I did. A BFP stared back at me and I was in total shock.

I don't remember having any ovulation pain in August (which is when I conceived) and I didn't have any spotting or implantation bleeding.

I've definitely been having little pinching pains the last week or so on and off, and my boobs are still on fire, and the fatigue has set in too...

I knew the day after I ovulated that I was pregnant. My breasts were already tender and I was so exhausted for no clear reason. I started testing 7 days past ovulation but didn't get a positive until 9 days after, and even then it was very faint. By 11 days after the line was dark and a digital confirmed! Check out www.twoweekwait.com. This site got me through until my positive.

    Uhhh...that's not possible.

  • I was pretty damn sure because of the sore boobs, which I got with DD but never get during PMS.
