Sell or donate maternity clothes? (Mamas who are done obviously)

I have a friend on FB who asked if anyone wanted 2 bags of maternity clothes. I did the same after DD. But then I sold alot on Ebay, and donated the stuff that didn't sell. The girl asking made me feel guilty for selling my stuff instead of donating it all. I had ALOT of things, and alot were barely worn, new with tags, and expensive. It is nice to recoup some of the money I spent on my wardrobes throughout my 3 pregnancies. Which would/did you do?

  • Mine is in my attic. First friend to be pregnant in cold weather will hit the jackpot of two trash bags full of stuff. A women's shelter would also be a great place to donate.

  • I'd probably just pass it on because I'm too lazy to figure out E-bay and my clothes probably wouldn't fetch a lot anyway.

I'm sadly one of the last of my friends to have a baby. All of my friends are done. And my friend who is pregnant now is on her 4th, and is smaller than me. PP, I was SHOCKED at what people bought. My DH thought I wouldn't get anything. Most of my stuff is Target/Old Navy/Motherhood.

  • I donated all my stuff to the Red Cross.  While it would be nice to get some of the money back as the clothes weren't cheap, I have always looked at clothing as something you should give away and not resell.  Not sure why, it just seems like the thing to do.

  • I will probably give them to Goodwill.  All my friends have kids now and have their own maternity clothes.  It sucks because I have a few nice things.. maybe I'll try to sell those on ebay if I can be bothered;)

I'm the weird one here. I gave them to my friend (as a hint to get pregnant soon even though they are not trying yet) with the implication that when she was done with them that I would sell them. Her husband is Mr. Thrifty so she didn't even bat an eye at that.

  • Mine is all going to the local consignment store just like DD's and DS's clothes do. Don't feel bad about selling your clothes they are expensive and you have to buy a whole new wardrobe so you need the money (or you could be extremely lucky and fitting back into your pp clothes and in which case I'm jealous).

  • I lent my stash to a good friend she added to it (although I liked my own clothes better and was a little sadened by the additional wear it caused) and she then gave it all back. She is done and doesn't want it back, I think I'm done. I have it all bagged up and it's going to my sister (not yet ttc but soon) along with all my babies clothes. I don't think it's wrong to sell I just can't be bothered I'm happy to see it all be used. I can't wait to see my nieces and nephews in Logan and Ellies old clothes!

  • The first time around I let me friend borrow my clothes, this time around I just gave them to her to keep forever. Most of my clothes I got as hand me downs as well. I do whatever you want to do. If you can sell some of them do that, if you know someone who needs them give them away.

  • I would have tried to sell too - I like to help out and donate a lot of things. It just depends. If it still had a tag on it, or was only worn once or something, I would sell it. If I had washed it several times, I would donate it. Of course, I'm keeping all of mine since I am definitely NOT done!

Most of mine were professional maternity clothes so I paid alot for them.  I have them at a cosignment store, I will take the money I make and put in DD educational savings fund.  What does not sell then I will  donate.
  • I'm not going to sell any, just because they have been worn for 3 PGs and they've served their purpose.  And, I'm too lazy to take them to the consignment store.  But, I am saving some for my sister for when she gets PG again and the rest has already gone to goodwill.
