QOTW:   What field do you work in and what is you dream job?

Updates or vents?

Re: PG >35 Weekly Check-in

  • I work for a very busy Investment Advisor (top 100 in the firm in the country) for a major stock brokerage firm.  I provide administrative and technical support to a team of 6.

Although I love my job, it is not my dream job.  My dream job would be to be the General Manager of an OHL hockey team.  Currently I am on the board of a team, and realistically that is as close as I will ever get to my dream job.  I love my work on the board, it hardly seems like work.

As for updates, had a great OB appt last week.  Baby is doing great.  Integrated prenatal screening came back awesome for this peanut. Based soley on my age, risk of downs was 1 in 70.  Factoring in my 1st and 2nd tri b/w it is less than 1 in 100,000.  No that is not a typo, it's really that good.  Risk of other trisomies was just as good and there was no measureable risk of spina bifida.  Whooo Freakin' Hoo!  I was due for some good news.  My a/s is scheduled for 3pm this thursday.  I can not wait to find out if it's a boy or girl.  If it's a boy, battle royale for a name starts right afterward, unless by some miracle DH will agree to one of the 25 names I am willing to use.  If it's a girl, she already has a name, thank goodness!

I work in the Behavioral field in insurance. Not my dream job at all. I like my company. Currently do not like what I am doing.

My dream job would be anything in the music filed. I was in a band back in the day and I just love music so would love to do something there

No updates or vents. Other then I want to start felling this baby move around. Figure once I feel that maybe I will truly feel pregnant. I have hardly gained any weight. Don't look very pregnant. Other then still being tired all the time I feel the same

  • QOTW:   What field do you work in and what is you dream job?

Right now I am the assistant to a payroll manager in a government office. I'm an oddball, I don't have a "dream job". I go where the paychecks lead me so I can pursue my life dreams... places I'd like to go, and things I'd like to do. So I guess you could say I wokr to live, I don't live to work.

    Updates or vents?

I have a check up today, and I'm sure I'm going to get the stink eye over my weight gain (especially after what I ate this weekend, last night was probably a bad time to decide to eat a whole pint of Ben & Jerry's, oh well) And I just found out my SIL's are going to host a small baby shower for us. just a lunch at a restaurant, but it's our favorite Italian place, so it will be good food and good friends/family. I don't expect gifts, but the party to celebrate the baby is much appreciated (oh, and apparently it's at the end of this month!)

  • QOTW:   What field do you work in and what is you dream job?

I'm a systems librarian at a university and have faculty status, so I also teach.  This is OK for now, but definitely NOT my dream job!  I actually hate teaching.  I like thinking about it and theorizing about it, but I hate actually DOING it.  My dream job (which would require going to grad school for the FOURTH time) is to be a clinical neuropsychologist.  I don't know if that will ever happen.  I have paid off all of my previous educational loans and don't really like the idea of assuming more educational debt in my late 30's/early 40's!

    Updates or vents?

Failed 2 out of the 4 tests in the 3-hour GTT, so I guess this means I have GD.  Waiting for a referral to a nutritionist, but trying to eat low-car/low sugar and exercise more in the meantime.  Not happy with this development, and it makes me totally jealous of all the women on my BMB who are constantly posting about how they ate a cupcake for breakfast or bought a pie or got a blizzard - like EVERY SINGLE DAY.  I tried to eat decently BEFORE this diagnosis, and I know it's lame, but I feel like I'm missing a "fun" part of pregnancy in that I can't eat whatever I want!

QOTW - I'm a SAHM but am destined to be a history professor and novellist once my boys are in school :)

eta - no real updates. I'm huge and uncomfortable, but that's to be expected.

  • QOTW:   What field do you work in and what is you dream job?

I'm a Registered Client Associate for a major private wealth firm.  I work with one advisor and one analyst and consider myself extremely fortunate.  That said, my dream job would be to be successful enough in my Mary Kay business to not work a "real job." I see my director who has been able to put her daughter through private school and never miss a school event and I want that.

    Updates or vents?

Yesterday was my 40th Birthday and because I'm sick we didn't celebrate.  I'm sure I'll be over it by tomorrow. :o) I have my 30 week US on the 10th and I'm super excited to see my LO and hope one of the scans is clear enough for the frame my parents gave us.

I work in accounting.  My dream job would be interior design.

    Updates:

We had another u/s this morning and our LO is measuring right where it should be for our gestation.  It was amazing to see how much he/she has grown in just one week.

I am a tax manager (CPA) at a public accounting firm.  It is definitely not my dream job - however, the firm is amazing and my benefits kick butt so I have no plans to leave.  My dream job would probably be event planning.  I love throwing parties but I hate paying for them.

    Updates or vents?

It's a boy!!!  I found out on Friday and it's exactly what I was hoping for.  I would have been thrilled with a girl too but my first choice was a boy so I can name the baby after my dad who passed in 1998.  So my little man will be Edwin James (or E.J. for short).

My vent is that I am tired of people complaining to me that they can't sleep when they can do something about it.   I try 100 things at night to get comfy and fall asleep but with all the moving around and peeing, I can't get more than 4 hours (max).  I don't want to hear my friend complain that he didn't sleep the night before because he wasn't comfortable - get off the couch, sleep in the bed I gave you and buy a fan so it's not so hot.  Or sleep in my spare room where it's freezing because I'm cranking the a/c.

  • I've gone back to school for my PhD in computer science. I've mostly working in engineering companies, doing some kind of design or software. My dream job, which I'd probably be horrible at, is some kind of forensic or accident investigation. Actually, might end up pushing into something similar when I finally graduate, if I don't end up in a university teaching position.

What can I say? Dorky dreams :)

  • I was a professional teacher, in an alternative setting. I had the toughest kids, but learned the most about myself, and learned to care deeply for those who see the world differently. Now, I've turned my teaching into my home, and I home school my 3 older ones. My oldest is starting HS and I will start preschool with my almost 4yo this fall. The 2yo will learn motor skills, and the new baby will hang out in the baby wrap after he/she gets here.

QOTW: What field do you work in and what is you dream job? I'm a non-practicing attorney; currently I work in banking as an auditor, mainly servicing our trust departments because I have many years in financial services regulation. My dream job would be to work for the Securities & Exchange Commission drafting laws. So lame, I know

Updates or vents? I feel pretty ok but the skin is literally peeling off my fingers - OB says she doesn't think it's pregnancy-related, so I have a derm. appt tomorrow morning. Also I have serious pressure in my nether regions. Not fun! It makes me waddle.

Wow, from one extreme to another.  Insurance=boring, music industry = not boring!

You should start feeling movement soon, if you haven't already (and just not realized it), as long as you don't have an anterior placenta.  I know with DS, it took me a few weeks to realize what I was feeling was him moving, not just gas or digestion!

everyone should work to live.  I don't hate my job (could never do it if I did, it's just oo much damn work).  Most days I actually enjoy being there and I love my team.  If there was nothing to hold me back though, I'd rather do my dream job.  It would be more stressful and less stable (people get fired from that job all the time), but I would truly love it.  That's why I ran for a position on the board, it allows me to experience being close to the team and making some decisions, but doesn't come with the same risk of being fired!

That small family shower sounds so nice.  I doubt I'll have anything like that this time around, but I know people are anxiously awaiting peanuts arrival in November.

Wow, you are some educated lady!  I thought I was doing pretty well with an honours business degree and 2 post graduate diplomas.  6 yrs post secondary education, you must have me beat!  I can totally understand your lack of enthusiasm for taking on more debt for education in your late 30s, early 40s.  That is one of the reasons, I didn't get my MBA.  Besides, I have to think about my kids going to university right around when I would like to retire.  that should be fun!

Sorry to hear about the GD.  I am sure once you meet with the nutritionist you will learn about some "treats" that you are able to have even in a GD diet.

I see my director who has been able to put her daughter through private school and never miss a school event and I want that.

Happy Birthday.  I"m sorry you weren't feeling well.  Hope when you do celebrate it will be everything you hoped for.  GL at your u/s on the 10th.

QOTW:   What field do you work in and what is you dream job?

I work in accounting.  My dream job would be interior design.

    Updates:

We had another u/s this morning and our LO is measuring right where it should be for our gestation.  It was amazing to see how much he/she has grown in just one week.

congrats on a great u/s.  As for accounting, I was going to do that until I had to take Managerial Accounting in my 2nd, year...then I switched my major to HR, and ended up working in Financial Services. LOL.  Interior design would be fun!

QOTW:   What field do you work in and what is you dream job?

Event planning eh?  I like to plan, don't like to host and hate to pay!  LOL!

Congrats on your little man.  I can speak from experience, there is just something so special about the bond between a boy and his mom.  I was hoping my first was a boy and have enjoyed every minute with him.  This time around, I think I would actually be able to handle a girl and one of each would be nice, but if we are blessed with another little man, we will be so lucky!

I've gone back to school for my PhD in computer science.

My sister thought about going back to school to take forensics.  She kinda kiboshed the idea because around here, you have to be a regular constable before you can even apply for the forensics unit and she lives in/near Toronto...too much violent crime to risk it.

I was a professional teacher, in an alternative setting.

Good teachers are hard to come by.  My sister is a highschool science/phys. ed teacher, and it is a very thankless job sometimes.  It's wonderful that you are able to homeschool your children and know all about ciriculum, techniques, and the fact that not every kid learns the same way.

Happy Canada Day to you, Benoitfan!

Working for the SEC huh, that would be quite the job.  Working in the securities industry, there are so many rule and regs and policies.  It's a nightmare keeping up-to-date on all that stuff.  I work in the Cdn (Ontario) jurisdiction and have to do so much continuing education and compliance stuff to keep my license each year, it's nuts, necessary, but nuts just the same!

I hope they can figure out why your skin is falling off your fingers.  It sounds both gross and painful.  I hope you get some relief soon.  Does it make you feel any better to know I am only 18 weeks and the first few steps I take upon standing are very waddle-like already?

QOTW: I am an elementary school teacher (when I go back this "fall" anyway).  I think my dream job would still be in education, but probably start a business that helps parents help their kids with homework and study skills.

Updates: Well, other than my baby girl is here, not too much.  I had her Friday morning and was discharged Sunday morning.  I was doing so well that they said I could go home if I wanted to.  My butt was hurting so bad in all those chairs that I said yes.  Veronica was discharged Sunday night, so we all got to go home together.  Kinda weird that less than 48 hours after major surgery, I was waiting to go home.  Pain was more intense today, but I am moving around more too.

DH has been great.  I went to bed last ngiht and slept (on and off) from 10:30 to 5 am, and then he went to bed and slept until 11 am.  I will miss that when he goes back to work.  I hope you guys will let me linger a bit longer here.  I am cheering you all on from the sides!

Joi, congrats on your little lady.  Love the pic with her daddy.  She is so precious.   Oh and of course you can stay, we love having you here!

QOTW:   What field do you work in and what is you dream job?

I work as a high school guidance counselor.  Most of the time I enjoy it, but I would love to open a fancy yarn store.  I am a so-so knitter, but I love wandering around the fancy yarn stores and have way too much yarn stockpiled right now.

    Updates or vents?

My 1 hour GD test came back "slightly elevated" so I am going in for my 3 hour test tomorrow morning.  Other than that, things are going really well.  Despite all of the risk factors they keep tacking on for me, the baby seems to be growing like a champ.

GL on your 3hr GTT.  I hope you pass with flying colours.

QOTW:   What field do you work in and what is you dream job? I am a high school teacher.  Used to be my dream job but parents have become so difficult to deal with I am wanting out.  I will not have to work after the baby is born so, YAY!  Dream job I would love to be a counselor working with teenagers/troubled teenagers.  Updates or vents? I am SO tired of my face breaking out!!!  I feel like a 15 year old again.  It is disgusting and I look horrible!!

My sister is a highschool teacher and I hear this from her sometimes...usually just from the parents of her science kids, most parents don't *** about phys. ed.  LOL.

As for the breakouts....I would think your hormone levels should be leveling off soon and hopefully that side effect will take a permanent hike.

QOTW:   What field do you work in and what is you dream job? I am a college professor (well, assistant professor) and I do like my job and feel extremely blessed/lucky to have the job I do.   If I could be anything- I would own a combo stationary store/bakery!   If that is even possible.   OR- I would have any sort of job that pays well & is extremely flexible so I could work as little as possible when the kids are little :)  That is not an option with my job... and since I am still paying off loans from grad school... I will have to keep my job forever :) Updates or vents?   Ummm...  I think I had a reaction to the fish oil I took last night and have been sick ever since. I have to give two lectures tomorrow on a topic that is not easy & completely confusing & I'm hoping I am prepared enough b/c I spent half the day sleeping!

I am sorry you aren't feeling well and I hope your lectures go great tomorrow.

I don't mind hosting but I just hate paying and cleaning up.  I could hire a cleaning crew so I didn't have to do it.

Thank you - I'm super excited about it being a boy.  Since I am on this journey solo (sperm donor) I was thinking that the relationship between mom/son would be much easier than mom/daughter.  I know how my relationship is with my mom and it's strained to say the least.  I know nothing about taking care of little boy parts but I'll learn!

    I'm new here!

I used to be an attorney, am now a SAHM.  My dream job would be a curator at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

    SAHM to DD1 (7), DS (5) and DD2 (1)
  • QOTW:   What field do you work in and what is you dream job?

I currently work as a Project Manager for a major telecommunications company and it's definitely not my dream job. I always wanted to be a Large Animal Veterinarian but I just couldn't hack all of the chemistry back in college when I was starting out in my major. Now if I could have any job I wanted I would run a stable/horse boarding facility.

    Updates or vents?

I cannot seem to get a decent night's sleep. This pregnancy has been very different than my first which seemed so enjoyable. I am bloated and have to pee constantly and can't get comfortable in my bed so I end up tossing and turning all night long. I am very much looking forward to 2nd Tri!

  • QOTW:   What field do you work in and what is you dream job?  I work in Finance - I am 1 of 2 Senior traders at a money management firm.  I love my job.  Been here for 10 years, and still love it.  I am also the president of our association for my area.

Now for my dream job, outside of having the 'job' of say an heiress, I would love to be an interior decorator.  I love picking out paint colors and fabrics etc...  If I had the time and the $$  I would redo our entire house every year or so.

Updates or vents?  I was just in essence, kicked off of my volleyball team for our second session.  What irks the living daylights out of me is that the other 2 girls have both played thru 2 pregnancies each and were allowed, even encouraged to play as long as they wanted and were able to.  Not to mention the absolutely passive agressive way it was brought about...  It is "of course" at this point entirely up to me if I want to play for however long I would like, and nothing was meant by it...  but b!tch please, I am not going to go where I am clearly not wanted.  Guess that 10+ years of playing together doesn't count for squat, damage is done.

  • Job stuff:  I'm a wildlife biologist, which is fun, but it's one of those careers that becomes more desk-centered as you climb up the ladder.  Technically, this IS my dream career, but I've become a bit bored in my present job and I'll need to sort of re-invent myself within this field at some point. However, I work for an amazing woman who pays me way more than industry standard, and I'm trying to concentrate on growing a family, so I'll stay put for a few years before I start soul-searching again about my next incarnation as a biologist.

Baby stuff:  Had a wonderful u/s on Tuesday, I still can't believe I've made it this far. Praise be. NT and Harmony testing next week (similar to MaterniT21)!

Benoitfan, kudos to you for replying to all of us, you are amazing!  Also, that is wonderful news about your test results, I'm aspiring to be like you over the next few weeks :).  Congrats!
