Late Term and Child Loss

TMI- 1st period after labor & D&E

I delivered Isaac and had a D&E on May 31, 2012 and I just got my first period.  Yesterday and today it is so heavy. I have been soaking a super tampon every 45m-1hr.  I spoke with the on call dr at my practice and she said wait a few more hrs. Call back if it does not subside. I will have to go to the emergency room.

Has this happened to anyone?

Re: TMI- 1st period after labor & D&E

  • I'm sorry to say I have no experience or advice.  But that sounds like a lot of bleeding so I am glad you have spoken with your doctor about it.  I hope it lightens up soon.

  • My first period after delivering the boys was very heavy. It seemed to be pouring out. I was concerned and called the doctor too and he told me if it continued like that for more than 2 days I would need to go in. It was really heavy like that for about a day and then let up a bit. I hope yours subsides soon.

  • Thanks a ton ladies. I am sorry that you have all experienced this heavy bleeding. It lessened a little around 4pm today.  I have been told to hold off on the ER for now, thankfully.  I am able to go 2-3 hrs now on a super tampon.  I have no cramping or pain just heavy flow.  I am hoping it subsides tomorrow even more.

  • My first period after delivery was REALLY heavy and also very painful.  I would guess that I was changing every hour or so completely soaked through.  I did end up back in the hospital, but it was just for peace of mind.  Sorry your going through this.  The first one was very emotional for me and I imagine that that's pretty common.  T&P
