brown dischage in wet diaper

My LO is 5 days old and I noticed today that in his last two wet diapers there was a small amount of brownish discharge.  I don't know if it's blood or what, or how serious it could be.  We are going to his Dr appt tomorrow morning, should I wait until then or call today? What do you think it could be?

Where is it? Is it in the front of the diaper? It might be "brick staining"  which is normal in the first week or so. It's when there's a build up of uric acid crystals in the urine which is harmless. 

I remember worrying about it with DS1 while still in the hospital and the nurses reassured me that it was just 'brick dust.'

 Since you have an appointment tomorrow, ask about it then and your doc will explain it better than I can. lol

yes it is in the front...it didn't seem powdery though, it seemed to be absorbed in the diaper...someone mentioned it could be he isn't getting enough fluids which it could be since right now I am just getting my milk in and he is having trouble latching since we had to supplement with formula

I checked his temp and it was normal,  97.5....hopefully it isn't a UTI

It could potentially be something that is similar to menstration - when first born babies still have alot of thier mom's hormones in them and can sometimes have swollen breasts and even lactate a bit (don't try this). Anyways, it's perfectly normal and can persist for 3-4 days but I'd mention it to the doctor when you see him tomorrow, just to be safe as no one on here would give you better advice then him/her.

yea I am definitely going to mention it to the dr tomorrow...just didnt know if it was urgent enough to call today
