Has anyone who has given birth previously had any luck with manual
methods of induction? i.e., perhaps membrane sweeping, foley bulb,
breaking water - rather than going the chemical route (prostaglandin/
oxytocin/ etc)? If so, how well did that work for you? It's likely I
will have to get induced by week 39 because of hypertension (if I don't
develop pre-e before that), and would love to avoid the chemical route
if at all possible.
Re: manual induction? (xp third tri)
I had a membrane sweep at 39wks 6 days and my son was born less than 24 hours later.
if your baby is ready, a membrane sweep can help "put you over the edge" so to speak.
I was determined to make my membrane sweep work: I went home and had sex with hubby, walked up and down the stairs, and walked laps around my living room to encourage contractions.
Didn't work for me either, and it was a bit painful. I went into labour 3 days later. 40w3d.
I wont be doing it this time.
