VERY late to Board - but an expecting June FTM

Hi everyone -

I've been following you all but haven't written since I've been pretty lucky and had a complication free pregnancy - and still do but the frustration has crept in! My doc says I'm due the 20th but no matter what calculator I use (online or by hand) I can't get my due date past today (18th). Anyway...started contractions last night. They were coming ever 15-20 minutes for about 3 hours then they just subsided. I know this is regular but it's so hard not to get so excited then be disappointed when it stops.

Plus, I'm feeling extra pressure b/c my mom flew in and my sister is flying in on Friday and leaving next Wednesday. My doctor says he would like to induce at 41 weeks on the dot - next wednesday but would be willing to do it on Monday at the earliest if I'm really uncomfortable. I DO NOT WANT TO BE INDUCED! I repeat, I do not want to be induced. I know I have a couple days before I really need to start contemplating this but I literally just want to cry!

Other questions - I'm 90% effaced but not dilated at all! My doctor says my mucous plug is gone although I never saw it (is it weird that I wanted to see it? LOL) Have you guys ever heard of this...can I lose my mucous without being dilated? And please tell me there are more of you out there who have not been dilated before going into labor?

Sorry for the long vent and questions...I'm just feeling like this is NEVER going to happen!

  • Hey just wanted to respond about your mucus plug...

You may have lost it and not even realize it. It does not always come out in a solid piece such that you would be like oh that is it! More often it comes out as discharge little bit by little bit. Mine has been coming out for a week now. Occasionally now it is tinged with blood, but more often it is just a clearish/yellow color. It is like a thick discharge kind of day when it is coming out.

  • I'm with you on not wanting to be induced. I have several girlfriends who went into labor on their own @ 41 weeks or 41 weeks + 3 days, so didn't have to be induced.  Fight for what you want...

My edd is tomorrow, and will also be trying not to be induced. Just let your body wait it out.  Plenty of people have gone past their edds and are fine. This inducement craze is relatively new, it seems like.
