  • Wow I have never seen a number that high!  47% motility is great so no worries with that....

Morph is such a varying number...it can change from sample to sample.  I would be very suprised if your doctor recommends IVF because of that.  I would hope he would just want to recheck in a while to see if it has changed. I know woman on here who have gotten pregant naturally with 1% morph but my guess it they will recommend IUI and a recheck.

Man I still can't believe the 340 million!

  • Hope you don't mind if I jump in here....

DH had an initial SA done and we were told everything was within the "normal" range.  Once we moved to an RE, they did a SA on DH's sample for our first IUI and it revealed 2% morph.  DH started some supplements per the RE's instructions and our 2nd IUI was successful.

Like MD said, morph is highly debated.  YH's other numbers are great.  Don't count yourself out just yet.

    GL!

  • That is a great count!  Sorry the other numbers aren't as great, but maybe it would be worth it to have a repeat sample done, perhaps even at a different lab.

Re motility, what did your RE say is normal?  Our RE said they like to see motility at anything above 50%.

Wishing you a lot of luck.  I'm in the  beginning stages of testing too so I know how much of a mindfuuck this all is.  *hugs*

This SA was done at my RE's office. They want to see 50% motility.  RE will discuss our results at our first app next month.

  • GL hon, I hope you get some great feedback from your RE, and possibly even set up a course of action.  I'll be rooting for you guys.

    I found this helpful:

The entry on July 1, 2010

    Some important points.
You may have noticed that morphology is not the only parameter with a new normal value. Volume was at 2.0 cc, now it is at 1.5cc. A normal count was 20 million, this changed to 15 million. Motility was 50%, now it?s 40%. The normal morphology had the biggest change, as it went from 15% to 4%.

So now you know. Any morphology over 3% is considered normal. If your doctor tells you otherwise, ask him if he has seen the new WHO guidelines.

To take it one step farther, can there really be difference between 4% and 2%? I doubt that there is a difference between having 96% abnormally shaped sperm and 98% abnormally shaped sperm. So as I have said before, at our practice here at NYU, morphology is not considered with much respect, except in some rare cases where the sperm is unusually abnormal.

Anyhow, I am sorry for your diagnosis.  MFI is hard.  I def. know this from first hand experience.  I hope your doctor comes up with some options you feel comfortable with...
