Tightness in uterus whenevery on feet at 22 weeks?

Anytime I'm standing up for more than 2 minutes I get SORT of like a contraction.. except it doesn't stop.. it's just a constant tightening. I had LOTS of contractions all throughout my first singleton pregnancy (had to go in to the hospital twice to stop them) but they never changed my cervix and I ended up carrying that pregnancy to 41+ weeks!

My next appt is with the peri on Monday, should I be concerned and ask to be seen before the weekend or  just stay off my feet until Monday?  There's part of me that thinks this is just my irritable uterus, but it DOES feel different and now that there's two.. i just don't know.  Of course I have so much to do, haven't gotten anything for my dad or DH for father's day etc.. UGH!

Re: Tightness in uterus whenevery on feet at 22 weeks?

  • I had this symptom (not pregnant with multiples though) last week - I called and was blown off by my OBGYN triage nurses.  Ended up at the hospital after 3 days of it (it progressed from pressure when standing to pressure all the time to "contraction" like tightening).  Ended up I had the beginning stages of a bladder infection, which is one of the major causes of preterm labor.  My cervix was softening (they thought it was short, but that was a false alarm) from the irritation of the infection.  I would definitely ask to be seen tomorrow because it went from just a little pressure for me on a Monday to really bad by Wednesday.

7 days of antibiotics and it's all clear now.

  • i would call your doctor- ask them what they think. but honestly, if you are worried, ask to be seen before the weekend.  better to have peace of mind than worry til monday.

  • This is how my preterm labor felt.  Same time.  22 weeks.  By 23 weeks it got worse and I was put on bedrest after a trip to my MFM.

Everyone is different.  Sounds like you had an irritable uterus with your first - which means likely it will be the same (and probably intensified) with 2 babies.

I am so glad I listened to my body and went for a cervical length when I did.  I was able to take short term disability from my really physically demanding job and I know that is what kept me pregnant until 36 weeks.  Had I continued on the same 80 hour work weeks, I know I would have never lasted past 30 weeks.

    Keep us posted.

Yikes! I'm calling first thing this morning, thanks!

  • Update: Called OB and they wanted to see me right away.. they did an internal and a vag. ultrasound to measure the cervical length.. good news, I have a "very long cervix" it measured at like 5.4 (longer than at my last peri visit??) but anyway, seems like I'm just in for more of the same as far as the irritable uterus..

We did notice that both babies are kind of side to side and lower now.. so maybe that's the cause of the discomfort.  He said it just might be how the rest of this twin pregnancy will be for me.

Thanks for your advice, I feel a lot better going into the weekend knowing what the deal is!
