what does a breech baby feel like?

i'm 36 weeks pregnant and i went in for my group b and cervix check today. my midwife felt around on my stomach because i told her that i felt that my baby had moved. i never felt her flip or anything (i assume at this point that would be a strong movement), but for months she used to always kick the very top of my uterus (practically kicking my right boob) and now i felt kicks, or movement on the left side, about belly button height, and not her usual movements on the right, but when i feel around with my hand, i feel hardness on my right side, so i know part of her is there, i'm just wondering if it's her head or butt.

when my midwife felt around, she said it was hard to tell how the baby was facing, and when she did a dilation check, sure enough, i was closed, so she couldnt feel for baby's skull bones. i have an ultrasound scheduled for monday to see where our little girl is located, but i'm wondering what a breech baby feels like for those of you who know your LO is breech right now. thanks!

My baby girl is lying high and left to right so I feel her right under my chest and rarely at the bottom.  Hiccups are about 4 inches under my breast and kicks parallel to my belly button.

this sounds veeeery similar to my situation. did they schedule you for a c-section? i see you are close in due date with me. by the time i have my ultrasound, i'll be 37 weeks. wondering what my options will be if she is in fact breech. i know sometimes they try to flip the baby, but some doctors don't like doing that.

A c-section has been scheduled for the 6th.  i have an ultrasound tomorrow to check if she is breeched or locked and loaded (unless she turns tonight am assuming she's still breech).  Then I have one more appointment and we are ready to go.  the dr told me if we get into the delivery room and she's flipped then the c-section will be cancelled.  Being baby is alrady large they are not going to recommend a vaginal birth  and they are not going to try to flip her.  They are estimating kidlet to be over 9lbs.

thanks for your experience so far! i'll try to wait patiently for monday's ultrasound!

Mine is breech and we're doing her c-section Monday. But as far as how she feels, it's really easy to tell. Her kicks are always near (or actually hitting) my hips and her hiccups are pretty low. Plus her head is at the top under my boobs, and if you actually push down a little bit the head will bounce back easily. If it's the butt it'll be harder to push her. Good luck Monday!

My baby is in the frank breech position and it sounds a lot like what you are describing.  I feel a hard "lump" to the right of my belly button that is her head.  Her kicks are to the left side of my belly.

My OB office won't deliver a breech baby, they said it's not safe, etc... and honestly, the idea of trying to deliver a baby butt first really worries me.  So we have a c-section scheduled for July 5th.  It's definitely not what I expected, but it's starting to sink in.

  • have you ever played softball?

I have a softball like lump right below my ribs. its sways from left to right, but never down past the belly button.

    that is her head.

there is a mass of lumpyness below the softball -  that is the rest of her.

she's frank breech and running out of room. kicks and punches are more like wiggles now.

  • thanks for the descriptions! it seems our little girl might be breech too based off of these. i know what you mean by "softball" because i have felt that a few times (although it doesn't seem to always be close to the "surface" for easy feeling), and her kicks to the left are more like "slides/pushes" rather than direct kicks. what a stinker. we'll see how she looks on monday, but it seems very similar to you guys.

LOL so she's a little troublemaker.... making a fool outta mommy.  So guess who flipped today.  At the 32 week she was breech and hanging out about 5lbs.  Now at 36 weeks shes locked and loaded and roughly 8 lbs.  OMG I still have a month to go!
