Trying to Get Pregnant

4 days late, but BFN?

This is my first time posting on this board, but I really need some advice!

My period is normally like clockwork, 27 or 28 day cycle.  I am now on day 32 and no period in sight!  I've taken four pregnancy tests in the last two days... first one invalid, next three all BFN (First Response brand).

So my question is, do you think I'm just late for some odd reason, should I keep testing, how long until I should call my doctor?  I've also lost some weight recently (about 20 lbs in the last 2 months), could that have affected my cycle?

Any advice would be really appreciated.  Thanks!!

Are you temping/charting? If not then you have no way to know when you ovulated. You may have just ovulated later in your cycle than normal, therefore making your period late. People change so even if you have a cycle like clockwork for years, you can have a fluke cycle. Keep testing once a week until you hit 60 days, then call your doctor. Good luck!

  • It is absolutely amazing to me that women who have gotten pregnant and given birth know nothing about their bodies and how they work.

Pregnancy tests do not lie. If it says BFN, then its a BFN. You are not "late" unless you know when you ovulated and you know your normal luteal phase length. Please go buy a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility.

That isn't exactly a pre-req in order to get pregnant.  I've never been pregnant and I could probably teach my friends who have been pregnant and given birth a thing or two about their bodies.

I live in Frisco tx as well... welcome.

You are probably not pregnant just late, but you never know.... if you period doesn't show up in 60 days call your doctor.  You probably just ovulated late due to illness, stress or maybe just randomly.  So unless you know your ovulation date it is hard to know if you are late or pregnant.... I know you are probably frustrated and confused-sorry!  good luck!

    THIS!

I think I have read 10 posts over the past couple of days that are all asking the same thing. Read before you post. If you got a BFN, then your NOT pregnant. You say your cycles are like clockwork, but truth is NO ONE has clockwork cycles everytime! I thought mine were regular for years, then starting about 3 years ago, I go 2-3 months without a period and then BAM! I get 3-4 weeks of bleeding.... Sometimes AF will show up on time, but I have begun to expect her to be fashionably late. How late? Well, I guess that depends on what mood she is on that particular day of the week. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read the newbie link before you post asking us questions we have already answered for someone else.

  • Go to CVS and get a bunch of digi pregnancy tests (if they are under $12/box you're getting the cheapies and they won't work properly-- go for the gold!). Take a pregnancy test every 30 minutes (break out the water on this one) until you have taken 8 tests. If you get 8 negatives they cancel each other out and you're pregnant! Congrats!

Oh and welcome to the board!

  • Welcome Emmy! I totally understand where you are coming from because I am in a similar boat.  Although I'm pretty sure I'm not pregnant it can still be kind of scary not having your regular period show up on time.  Don't worry yourself too much yet...give it some time and if you still feel as though you may be pregnant and your cycle hasn't started than call you OB/GYN

As for those of you who struggle with patience and empathy on this board (and specifically this thread) I would hope that you would take a step back and try to remember the value of these qualities, which I'm sure each of your parents tried to enstill in you.  TTC and the fears associated with it can be daunting.  Sometimes people need to ask these questions (even if they've been asked repeatedly) to hear someone say that it will be okay to them directly.  Remember that NONE of you have the right to judge and belittle someone's honest concerns and questions.  If you see someone ask a question that you think has been asked a million times, than that should probably serve as a sign that you are cruising this board way to much and need to get out more.  At the very least you could always learn to ignore the posts that you think are repetative rather than respond in a belittling, negative manner.

end vent. Have a wonderful evening.

  • Wow these mommies or mommies to be are not nice at all! I know this is an older post but I couldn't help to point out how many people I know not only have gotten a bfn at 4 days late and still been pregnate, but I know people who have been 6 weeks preggo until they got their bfp. Unfortunately a variety of things can happen to the test that can make it inaccurate. My best advice would be to go get a blood test done. But since this was posted 6 months ago I am sure you know by now for sure. I wish you the best of luck.

And after 4 negative pregnancy tests, what exactly do you think a blood test is going to say? Generally, we do not advise people to waste their doctors' time and resources on unecessary tests. What we do try to tell people, though they don't seem to like hearing it, to learn about how their bodies work so that this kind of confusion can be avoided in the future.
