Two Under 2

Rec or hate your highchair

Hi Ladies,

We're expecting baby #2.  With the first I used a type of booster seat for infants & the whole time wanted a high chair b/c of the wheels.  I've decided not to repeat that mistake & am giving the old chair to the in-laws.  Can you please recommend your highchair or tell me what to stay away from.  TIA!!

I'd look into the graco blossom. It is a really nice highchair.

Ditto this. It's the Blossom 4-in-1. It reclines, which was great when DD was tiny and when she started solids. The back wheels swivel, and I can easily roll it all over the house. The seat pad is vinyl so it's super easy to wipe down. I highly recommend it.

I have this one and I'm not sure I would actually rec it.

    Pros:

    ~4 seats in one

    ~3 different tray surfaces

~No divider between baby's legs (makes it capable of being pushed up the the table w/o the tray as well as turning into a seat for an older kid)

    ~3 recline positions

~Came with a booster seat that I'm pretty certain can be used in a regular chair. (This will be nice so I don't need a 2nd chair when #2 starts eating in a high chair.)

    Cons:

~Fixed front wheels make it difficult to steer around (that's the big one for me, I move our chair around a lot)

~Shallow seat (the sides are not very high - I've used other chairs w/ high sides and felt like they were safer)

~The cute print that you spend time picking out is only on the insert. (It didn't take long for me to feel like DD was being squished by using that thing and she's a petite thing. Once you take that out, it's just a plain, grey seat. Not the biggest deal but sort of disappointing.)

~No divider between baby's legs (I'm pretty sure that DD would not have fallen out of her chair as easily the one time I thought she was buckled and took the trays off to clean. She lunged forward and went tumbling to the ground with nothing to slow her down Sad

That's about all I can think of right now. It is a nice chair but it could be better. But, then again, I'm sure the same could be said about many other high chairs. Overall, I don't regret getting it though. So maybe I would recommend it after all? lol

  • I have a Carters wooden highchair. Pro: It looks really nice. Con: The pad/harness does not stay in place and my son can easily escape. I would not buy it again.
  • I have the Graco Duo Diner and I really don't have anything bad to say about it.

  • We also have the Graco Blossom.  We have it in a teal color, and I really like it.

  • I have the Chicco Polly highchair and I HATE it. I know it's a fairly popular chair, so I want to caution you against it. It's way too big for DS even though he's a bigger boy. It doesn't fit close enough to him, so the food just gets all over himself. It's a PITA to clean and the seat covers are hand wash only. Yes it folds very flat and can be stored easily, we leave it up all the time. I would not recommend getting it.

  • I also have the Graco Blossom and am enjoying it so far.  I like that I'll be able to put both kids in a chair in the future.  The thing I dislike is that the plastic mold that goes between the legs is attached to the tray instead of the seat.  We use cloth diapers so the tray can't get super close to LO and a lot of food misses the tray.  We didn't have this issue with our Fisher Price.  I just make sure to have her eat in her diaper more and it wipes up super easily from the pad.  I had to take the pad off our fisher price because it was a pain to clean.  Overall, I like it a lot.  I have only used it as a high chair but look forward to its many options and to be able to use it with 2 children at once.

  • We have a Stokke trip trap and an Ikea high chair. We love them both. They are easy to clean, don't take up too much room and don't scream baby in the house!! The Ikea chair is for outside use as it has a tray, the Stokke is used inside and DD eats from the table with us. I love how it grows with the child and we'll be able to use it for a LONG time.

I know there have been posts about the trip trap tipping over but we have the extensions at the back and we have it on a desk chair thing ( you know the plastic mat that you put under roller chairs) and I've tried to tip it over to clean it and it's HARD! DD has been able to sit in it since before she could sit unassisted and has never had any issues unlike many others that we've used out and about.
