How are you doing non-working mamas?

Sorry to step on your toes rissa_n! But I really want to know. I've been too big and way too uncomfortable to go to work, so I've been on leave for almost 2 weeks now and I am going stir-crazy! I still keep tabs on my store and I've been reduced to watching reality tv like Bridzillas, my house is clean enough because I have a cleaning lady come by to do the things I can't do anymore. Also I've been spending disgusting amounts of time on the Internet and once a day I manage to go walking until it hurts too much to keep going. What are some of the things you guys are doing to keep from going crazy? Other than getting ready for baby, I'm about as ready as I'm going to get at this point.

  • I have been cleaning like mad since baby can come any day now and I know the cleaning will get negleted after he comes.
  • I've been on 'modified bedrest' since 28 weeks, but have basically been on my butt this whole pregnancy due to hyperemesis in the first/early second tri and major contractions and back pain from the weight gain in the second tri...

I can basically say that I am crazy, theres no more going crazy about it! 9 months of stationary living is not my style at all...

I spend alot of time on the bump, drive my cleaning lady crazy with lists because I feel like nesting, and sitting outside in the sun reading my prego lady books... Other than that, it's TV and wasting time on the net.

I feel ya! Hang in there... we're almost to the finish line! I'm praying for labor to start on my 37 week mark... she needs to get out. Now. lol

  • Sooo ready to be done! I'm kind of a temporary SAHM while I finish up my degree (I'm taking online classes this summer and fall, and then headed back to campus in the spring), so DH and I agreed on an 8-hour work schedule for me - anything pregnancy-related like doctor's appointments counts as work, housework of course counts as work, and homework does too. It's getting harder and harder, though, to keep up that 8 hours, mostly because I keep having to cut out chores that I'm physically not capable of anymore, and then all of a sudden I don't have enough to do to last 8 hours! I've started doing silly things like cleaning the chandelier because it looks greasy, but then my feet swell and I feel like crap afterward. ><

The biggest thing that has saved me from boredom/loneliness, though, is having something challenging for my brain to sink into, whether it's homework (I'm writing a thesis on Ulysses), or if I'm cleaning, I put on RadioLab and listen to some of the cool sciency stuff they talk about.

  • I've been trying to spend as much quality time with my 6 year old as I can before the baby gets here.  Trying to hang out with her, and trying to get our new apartment in order, as well as also spending way too much time online :)

  • Well I've been a 'non-working mama' for a week and it's been a lot of fun. DS and I have been going to the park, baking, gardening, having lunch dates, and playing outside pretty much everyday. It's been nice to have this solo time with him before baby comes.

  • I took 2 weeks of vacation before I start my mat leave. My mat leave starts tomorrow, officially. I went to the cottage for the first week I was off. Last week, I spent an entire day driving to go pick up a bridesmaid dress I forgot at a family members house (ugh!!), then I had a OB appointment and a prenatal massage another day, a professional development seminar, another day I spent trying to find someone to alter the bridesmaid dress (for the wedding THIS Friday), then I spent a day budgeting, grocery shopping, bringing donations to the community agency in town (surplus baby things), and going for a dress fitting. This week I'm going to lunch with a friend who has Mondays off, tomorrow I have a doctor's appointment, Wednesday I have a dress fitting, Thursday I don't have any plans, and Friday is my sister's wedding. After that I don't have a whole lot planned! Just my weekly appointments, and a professional development seminar next week, and one 2 days before my EDD.

I'm making a point to not sleep in and get out of bed and have breakfast by 8am. Sometimes I don't get a whole lot accomplished other than get on the internet and catch up on things I've PVRed, before I tackle cleaning something around the house.

We just did the finishing touches on the nursery on Saturday (put up a shelf, attached the changing pad to the change table, mounted the video monitor, and stashed away the bigger baby clothes (6months and up). At this point I don't really have a whole lot to do so I'll probably putter around the house a little bit every day.

  • I've only been out of work on disability for a week now, so I'm not going stir crazy yet. I have pretty severe symphysis pubic dysfunction, so unfortunately I physically can't nest like I want to. I've been keeping busy visiting family, going to appointments, and trying not to go crazy from the pain I'm in. Still hoping he stays put until at least 39 weeks.

  • My last day of work is on Thursday, but I have already reduced my work load by 90%. I am keeping busy by freezing meals and watching Real Housewifes on Bravo TV. But they fight so much that sometimes they get on my dreams hahahahah

I've actually been doing everything in my power to sleep in. False labor after 2 hours of sleep was enough to let me know I should get as much as I can in case I end up going into labor at a really weird time of the day. But then, I haven't been sleeping well for the last 9 months, so really any sleep I get is a blessing.

  • I read a LOT of books! Helps keep me from going crazy :)

  • Since I have everything ready for the baby now, it's been pretty boring! Before I had so much to do and now I'm just playing the waiting game.

To pass the time I've been cleaning, reading, napping, and trying to leave the house to run errands whenever I can. I've also been watching my share of trashy tv. :)

  • I've been off of work for over a week now and doing basically the same things as everyone else...cleaning, nesting, trying to rest. I did manage to get a few crafts done for relatives and for the nursery. I made one of those cute pinwheel mobiles and painted 3 canvases to go with our nautical theme. I would love to get out of the house more, but both driving and standing in line are just so uncomfortable at this point that I avoid both as much as I can.

I have thought about a new craft idea...I think I'm going to make my own baby book. I have looked at several pre-printed books (This is my first smile. This is the day I learned to walk. etc), but I think it would be more fun to make my own. I figure if I start now with the basic layouts, all I will need to do later is add photos, dates, and journaling if I want. (That's my biggest motivation -- being able to customize the layout so that if I don't journal something, it doesn't look like I got careless. YKWIM?)

  • I've been off for a full month now.

I take advantage of sleeping in until 1030 or 11. Getting ready takes an hour. I am trying to keep up with the house since we are having our baby at home, I also have weekly midwife and chiro appointments. Other than that i pretty mucj just watch tv and try to will this baby to come!

     good luck

  • i worked in a very busy fast paced fast food 'restaurant' and i had to stop working about a month ago. lucky for me, i'm a huge hockey fan and it's been playoffs so i've had a little distraction. but I've been doing pretty much what you've been doing, just puttering around, playing with the dogs, folding and refolding clothes, unpacking the diaper bag just to pack it back up. random things. do some yoga. i love it (helps with digestion as well if you've had problems with that :) ) Just make sure that if you've been sitting for a long time, you get up and stretch (get on all four's, good positioning for the baby), file your nails (i love doing this), if you're online and don't see that changing in the near future i highly recommend stumbleupon.com its a great way to be online and not just on the same sites you always go to. i'm due in a week so i've been 'non-working' for close to 5 weeks. you'll find things to do. if nothing else, sleep, i'm sure we'll all need as much as we can get soon.
