Pumping to Relieve - To store or not to store?

DS has been inconsistently sleeping through the night, so my body hasn't had a chance to regulate for the long periods of sleep. Therefore, I am occasionally pumping just enough to relieve some engorgement (and prevent him from choking on an overactive letdown), which usually amounts to 1-2 ounces. I've been dumping this milk because my thought is that it must be mostly fore milk and it looks pretty thin.  I don't want to save it to use for a later feeding if it doesn't have a proper blend of fat. Am I wrong in this thinking?

  • Milk is milk. I would save it, you can always mix it with fattier milk if you want.

  • Save it! Mix it with other milk. Also, having 1-2 oz bags of stored milk was great for me when my son started solids -- I mixed his baby cereal with it or I thinned the babyfood I made him with those little bags of milk.

Great idea. Maybe label it as to be used for mixing, just so you know.
