June 2011 Moms

is anyone still using infant car seat?

We went out to eat and another family was seated near us.   They came in carrying an infant car seat so I assumed they had a little one.   Then they took the baby out and put her in a high chair.   She looked about the same age/size as Alex.   Later on, she was toddling around holding her dad's hand.

Now Alex has been out of the carrier for months now since we had an older model with a low weight/height limit(it was my older son's).   But I know that other models have much higher limits.   I know that the other baby that goes to our baby sitter is still in his carrier but mom leaves it in the car and takes him in and out of the seat(meaning she uses it as a car seat not a carrier)

I was just a little surprised to see a baby that size/age still being carried around in the carrier.   That thing must be HEAVY!!!!

Is anyone else still using the carrier?

Re: is anyone still using infant car seat?

  • We still use the infant carrier but use don't carry it around anymore.  It stays in the car all the time and I just get her in and out of it.  It is good until 35 lbs and 32 inches.

  • M is still in her carrier, but like PP, we don't carry her around in it - it stays in the car all the time.  She's nowhere near the weight limit, but she has reached the height limit.  However, her head is still below the shell, so we're OK.... but I'm going to install her convertible seat soon.

  • We still use ours and carry it around. It's the only seat we have for ds right now. It is so heavy. I'm hoping to get at least one new seat soon.

  • We JUST moved LO out of her carrier and into her convertible seat this weekend.  The carrier is good up to 35 pounds and 30 inches.  She is 22 pounds and 30 inches.  It was definitely CRAZY heavy lugging her around in that (although usually, thankfully, I didn't have to lug her too far -- I'd just pop that out of the car and then into the snap 'n go).

No. We switched at 7 months, and he's way happier in his convertible. Right now he's 22 pounds and 30.5 inches. So he could still have fit
  • We have it and DS still fits, but we haven't used it since about 2 months.  He HATED it with passion.  We're planning to take it with us on a plane next month since airlines are so rough on everything.  If he screams the whole time (like he did before), we can always buy a new one when we get to our destination.

  • We just switched a few days ago, but up until then, we used the infant seat mostly as a car seat only. I did still the whole thing in and out of the car when I dropped him at my parents' for daycare. We only did that b/c they have a carseat base, so I needed to leave the seat at their house. Now, the seat is permanently in their car (til he outgrows) and we have a "big boy" carseat. He is only 18lbs and I had stopped taking it out of the car any other occasion... so I can't imagine a typically sized 1 year old in that seat.

We still use it--I was just leaving it in the car and switching it when we needed to use the other car.  Now I have a convertible in mine and the infant seat in DH's, so we rarely carry her around in it anymore.

She is a peanut--18lbs4oz and 28.5 inches at her 1 yr visit--but it's still too heavy to carry her around in it!

  • We just installed the first convertible in one car today, the other later this week.  DS is only 21 lbs and 29".  It's heavy, yet it isn't like it was super light at 7 months - or 2 for that matter.  It's still so convenient though, I will miss it.

  • We're still using ours but it stays in the car 99% of the time. We ionly carry him out of the car in it if he's sleeping. I'm going to miss that. He still fits but is really beginning to hate it though. We plan on switching over at some point this week.

  • Nope, we switched on Christmas Day (6 1/2 months).  N just looked way to cramped in his even though it was good for another 17 lbs and a couple of inches at the time.  It was a great decision for us - he is SO much happier in the convertible.

I just stopped using it about a month ago. I'd still use it if she didn't grow out of it height wise. I miss being able to use the carrier.

  • Ours is good until 30lbs and 30inches.  Since Violet is in the 8% for weight and the 15% for height, we are still comfortably in the carrier BUT we never carry her in it, we just use it in the car as the carseat itself.

  • We still use ours.  And will until DH gets a convertible seat for his car.  And he better soon.  However, I must admit that my upper body strength is really improving.

  • Z is still in her infant seat. She has a Gracco Snugride 35 (she's 20lbs), and still has considerable space from her head to the top of the seat. I'm sure she will be out of it soon, but for now we just take her out when we get places like she's in any other convertible seat.

  • We still use the carrier. I take DS out and leave the car seat in the car when we go places but I still bring the carrier in and out of our house and my parents house. The model we bought rear faces up to 35 lbs and I think 32 inches (maybe longer).

  • C is still in his Chicco Keyfit30, but I never carry him in it.  I leave it in the car or switch it between cars when necessary.  He does fine in it, so I have no intentions of switching until he reaches the limits.

ditto all of this.  we still have it in DH's car, although our to-do list for this upcoming weekend is to install the convertible seat.

  • We switch Em at 8+ months. I couldn't really carry her anymore. That thing with her in it was heavy!!  Life is much easier with the new carseat, or as we call it Lazyboy.
