Natural Birth

Natural Delivery without any birthing classes?

Has/ or is anyone had/planning a natural (unmedicated) delivery without taking any birthing classes? We are at a point that because of our schedules and other factors we may not be able to take any birthing classes. I am just wondering of others experiences.

TIA

We did not take any natural birthing classes, but we did take the hospital's regular birthing class.

Unless you and your DH both have read up on the stages of labor, and are familiar with your hospital's policies, I would suggest taking some sort of class. If you don't know what to expect, it's going to make it a lot harder to advocate for yourself if you end up at odds with the medical staff.

I had a homebirth and never took a class.  I just don't understand what a class could teach me when my body already knows what to do.  I also don't agree with lamaze.  I did however read Ina May's Childbirth book and took examples off people's birth stories of things that helped (arm wreslting helped a lot).  I never regreted not taking classes and felt very prepared at the birth.
  • We are not taking any classes.  We are however, learning in great detail the stages of labor and what happens to the body in the various stages.  Lots of reading, lots of research, but no formal classes.
  • We aren't taking any NB classes or learning any "methods".  We have a doula, are taking the hospital's 4 week class, and are reading lots.  I have a NB friendly hospital so I feel lucky.

I won't be taking any, but I took some with DS. I'll be reviewing breathing techniques since that was what helped me the most last time.
  • thats my plan, i have a lot of support and i just tell myself i can do it... i dont feed into any fear. my doc said to workout and try not to gain more that 30lbs for a hopefully smooth delivery.

  • I didn't take any but read a couple books.  What made NB possible for me was my support person.  I originally thought my DH would be good but the truth is he was pretty useless.

My MIL ended up being my support person (sorta random how this happened) and made all the difference in the world.  She applied counter pressure and gave words of encouragement that by the time it became unbearable, I knew I was too close to ask for any pain meds.

  • I had 2 drug free births (one at home, one at hospital) without taking any classes. The best thing I did to prepare was read the Marie Mongan Hypnobirthing book and listening to the CD before and during labour. Also I researched some accupressure techniques my husband used on me. A natural birth is about confidence and state of mind. YOU CAN DO IT!
  • That's encouraging. Other than reading books and watching videos I'm not planning on taking any classes. I'll trust the Lord, my body, DH, and Midwife.

    Thanks ladies,

    I wish y'all the best
