Are fold down on the side cribs the same as a drop side crib?

I figure they are two seperate things and the fold down cribs are not recalled but just want to double check.

Our daycare purchased new cribs after my son left the infant room and they fold down on the side so I just want to make sure.  Since they bought them some time after 2010 I figure they are not recalled.  I am sure this is one of the things the state would check when they come and I am just a bit paranoid.

  • I think those are fine.  The issue with drop down was part of the side could pop off away from the rest of the crib and babies got stuck.

  • Hey I agree with the above poster.  My brother in law gave us his old crib (at least 12 years old) and I was concerned because it folded on the side too, but you know what, it's been great because you can actually reach down and get the kids out when they're small and can't stand yet.  And it's pretty safe because to fold down the crib you need to have both hands pushing in the side buttons and it's pretty much as far apart as your entire arms span so a kid couldn't do it.
  • Hi!

I just bought a fold down crib last week! I really like this option and as pp stated, there is no way (on mine) that a baby would be able to fold it down. Seems totally safe and really convenient to me. Mine is the "Baby's Dream" brand. I am excited - it will be delivered next week! :)
