Hi,
Just want some honest feedback from woman who understand my situation. My DH and I tried 3 IUI's, IVF & a frozen egg study with donnor (only received 6 eggs and only 3 made it to fert) about 4 years ago. After 2 CP's IUI's, no eggs for the IVF and a neg on the IVF study, we took a break from IVF. We re-evaluated and decided to focus on building a new home and quit Fertility treatments. It was the right choice, but now I am really want to try again for a baby.
But and wait for it...I am 44 (DH is 43) and while not ideal we are fortunate that we could take most of the funds from our 401(k). Since we would need to use a donnor, my insurance will not cover the donnor, but will cover any treatments for me. So after the inital donnor cycle I could get my insurance to cover IVF's with any remaining viable eggs after the first cycle.
It appears I have two options that might be available using a donnor:
1. Approximately $13,000 for a single donnor cycle and my insurance would cover any additional IVF using any eggs that make it to fert and are frozen
2. IVF $30,000 up to 3 fresh and (i think 3) frozen cycles
So here are the questions:
Am I crazy to consider at 44 to restart donnor IVF? and which options would be the best,
If you kept reading thanks...sorry it's so long,
Mel
Re: Thinking about Starting Again
IMHO it's not too late to pursue the dream of parenthood.
Best of luck to you!
Obviously, emotionally, you are not done trying, and haven't given up, since you are still here thinking about it and asking these questions. So no I don't thinks it's crazy. If you honestly think you have the energy and strength to try again and in the end chase after a toddler when the time comes go for it.

Hi Mel. I'm in the same boat as you where I will be 44 in a few weeks and I always think I am crazy as well! I know pp say age is just a number but there is still alot to think about. For instance I'm tired now and my feet feel like I have arthritis in them or when he/she is 21 I will be 66! This all freaks me out. It's something I have to work on in my mind.
I can't start DE IVF for awhile yet but I've had a person post something while I was on the child-free board and said she had twins at 45. Being a mom later in life will have it's plusses and minuses. Yes she tires more easily but she said she wouldn't change a thing. She really wrote a nice post. I also lurk on the PG after 35 board and I know there are a few ladies who are in their 40's. It's nice to know if they could do it then I can also.
I wish you the best of luck.
ME:46 MH:44 DE IVF 2014
Met with RE 4/11. 2 IUI's BFN. DE best option. Switched clinics to do "shared" program. Had to retake all tests and a mamm that put me behind and then on a DE waiting list for 12 months. Picked a donor!! (10/13/13) Got matched. Estimated transfer in December. After 2.5 years of patiently waiting I will finally cycle....can hardly believe it. DE cycle got cancelled. One of her tests came back positive. Waiting for another donor. Donor picked!! (1/18/14)
