help-going back to work/feeding?

I am thinking about going back to work soon. I work in the restaurant business and will be doing mostly weekend work. I don't know what to do about breastfeeding since I won't be working every night I don't know if I want to bottle feed every night at the times I would be working on the weekends, especially since I don't always get a chance to pump enough milk for all that bottle feeding. I also won't get to pump at work because of the type of job I do (no time during shift). I was thinking about supplementing with formula for those feedings....any suggestions? I am lost here!

  • I've had supply issues and I feed her bottles of formula when I don't have enough for a feeding. Hope this helps.

  • How long are your shifts? If you're working more than a 4-5 hour shift you will need to pump or you will be uncomfortable.

I'm not sure why you'd need to feed a bottle on the nights you are not working. Why wouldn't you be able to nurse?

  • I think you have to play around with different options to find out what works best for you. I've been back to work for a few weeks, and I pump around 7 am, then again at noon, and then either feed/pump around 6. I agree that it will likely be uncomfortable to go more than 5 or so hours, although I've done a few longer stretches. I don't know that what I do is the best option but it works for me.
