Cloth Diapering

Leaking CDs at daycare?

I haven't been to this particular board, but I think this would be the best place for advice. I use Bumgenius 4.0s and I love them. However, now that my LO is on the go non-stop, the diapers are leaking at daycare and now at home too (just a few times). Am I not fitting them on DD correctly? Anything I can do to prevent leaks? My DC person doesn't want to use the CDs anymore unless I can find a way to prevent leakage.

 Help! TIA

Re: Leaking CDs at daycare?

  • What rise are you on? If they're not all the way undone, you could try that.

Are the inserts soaked when the diapers leak, or are they dry(ish)? Are they leaking out the leg or the waist?

That happened for us around 10 months.  I started adding one of the newborn inserts or a hemp doubler to the pocket and she never had a leak again!  It doesn't really add bulk, but she needed the extra absorbency.

  • They are leaking out the legs. I just, today, made them all the way undone to see how that helps. At daycare, the insert is soaked, so I think she just isn't changing the diapers as often as I do. The few times they leaked with me the insert was more on the dry side. I'm not sure how tight they should be either. I have the snap ones and I snap on the 2nd from the outside (if that makes sense). When I snap them on the 3rd row from the outside it seems like the fabric is stretching and I don't want to weart them out too soon. I have another LO on the way.

     Thanks!

  • Good idea. I will do this too.

    Thanks

  • My DCP is having the same problem with my FB, so I'm adding hemp to them.  Hopefully that will fix the problem.  We haven't had leaks at home yet, but we tend to change her a lot.  DCP is changing pretty often, but the inserts are still totally saturated.

  • You and they are probably putting them on too loose. They should feel a bit tighter than a sposie. And make sure the crotch is fully "tucked in" between his leg and butt (hard to describe, but the leg hole should follow his leg/butt crease). Another doubler might be necessary as well, but tightness was our biggest issue.

This wouldn't be the issue if the inserts were soaked though...

  • I'm having the same problem with my lo.  Leaking is always out the leg hole.  Some diapers like my BG 4.0 she can go overnight with the insert and the newborn as a doubler.  But some diapers like my Swaddlebees simplex leak after 2 hours.  Maybe a layer of hemp or another quick absorbing material would help.  I wish I could help more but I'm having the same issue.

We were having issues with daycare too. I've added a hemp insert to all the diapers that we send and it seems to have helped.  We do still have the occassional issue with a diaper not being put on tight enough when there is a fill-in teacher.

If the insert is fully soaked then they need to change her more frequently OR you will need to add more absorbancy. Otherwise she will always have leaks.

They should be snug - when you put the diaper on bend her leg up and see if there's any gaps around the leg that could be leading to leaks.  Since you adjusted the rise that may fix the fit issue too.
