So with the biggest full moon of the year happening this weekend, do any of you believe it will cause women to go into labor?
Some articles state a full moon does not affect labor, others state it affects your bag of water the same as the tides.
I'm due the 11th but have high hopes the full moon will get things moving!!!
I also read that some hospitals have extra staff on hand during a full moon.
Thoughts?!?!
Re: Full moon myth or real?
I don't think it should affect anything- BUT when I had my m/c last Aug it happened on a full moon. needless to say the 1st full moon after I found out I was pg this time I was a bit nervous- but ive been through a few full moons since getting pg and nothing so far
.
It's just a myth

Though I have read that some hospitals have more staff for full moons...probably to cope with all the hopeful women in false labor.
The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.
I was wondering about this too .. . If the full moon thing ISN'T a myth, then will the biggest and closest full moon of the year have an even greater effect than normal?
FWIW the nurse leading our hospital tour told every body that it gets crazy every full moon and the chances of getting a private room then were slim.

I had DS at a hospital attached birth center and this question came up during orientation. It's not a very big birth center and the MWs couldn't say 'yes' or 'no' definitively, but they did say that anytime they're full and or run out of beds is mainly on full moons.
Who knows? But I suspect, like ANYTHING thats supposed to encourage labor, it'll only 'work' on mammas who are ready to go anyway.
It's something to do with the barometric pressure change and graviational pull. Water (whether lakes, oceans, etc..) tend to stir up, wave, tide, whatever because the full moons have an effect on it. Same with your bag of waters, which is why lots of women go into labor/water break on full moons.
I believe in it!

I am also due on May 11. I would really love this full moon thing to work! LOL
I had my son during a full moon. Could have been a total coincidence, but it's still fun to think about.
The nurses in L&D swore that they get packed during full moons. Who knows.
This isn't really pregnancy related, but I used to work in an nursing home and when there was a full moon my little residents that had dementia and alzheimers would act up more it seemed like. One of the older nurses told me that she had always noticed this too and believed it was due to the changes in pressure and the magnetic fields. I know they advise pregnant women to avoid doing things that change pressure to avoid triggering labor one they are into their 3rd trimester. I've also read that animals get kinda crazy during them too, but I wouldn't know if that is true or not.... my dog is always a fruit loop, full moon or not.
Hopefully the full moon theory rings true for you!!! Sending labor thoughts your way!
Yep, this is exactly how the full moon thing started, But hey your body does what your mind tells it, so If you want it bad enough maybe you'll get your full moon baby!! LOL
This. My MIL is a nurse and told DH to watch me close this weekend for this reason.
