The nub theory

How accurate do you guys think this is? I have been doing some research online, but I just want to take a poll of who it actually worked for on this website. At the 12w4d US they told us that it was a 98% chance of having a little girl. How accurate were their predictions for you? Thanks!!!

  • we had them guess at our NT scan around 12 weeks and they guessed girl. they were wrong.

you won't get a 100% until you give birth. HTH.

  • Based on our nub at 12w6d we were having a girl, it was confirmed at the 20 week a/s. From what I read the nub theory is pretty accurate, but its accuracy depends on how well LO is cooperating so that they can get just the right image at just the right angle!
  • At my NT scan, our OB was 75% sure of the gender, and confirmed it at my u/s last week - so I think it's possible!   I was 12 weeks 5 days at the time of our scan.

There is an elective 3d/4d place here that guarantees gender checks at 14 weeks. They say they are never wrong, but if they are, they refund the cost. :) I'm wondering if they use the nub theory.. who knows... but I'm willing to check it out.

  • Sorry, I don't have a pic of the nub. They only gave me profile pictures at the US. But, I remember that her nub was exactly parallel to her spine and the online research says that it's most likely a girl if the "angle of the dangle" is less than 30 degrees. I will find out on May 23rd for sure.

  • NT scan tech guessed boy........16 week US confirmed so it was right for us :)
  • Hey there.  I think the techs were also pretty brave to guess... I was told they wouldn't even try to predict the sex of the baby until someone is at least 18 weeks along.  I have heard mixed thoughts on it.  A few people I know were told they were having one and when the baby came it was wrong.

I would hold off on buying  pink until your next ultrasound to see what they have.

  • Sorry... I meant to see what they say at your next ultrasound.
  • I know people who were told girl at 15-17w during elective u/s, and found out it was a boy at their a/s at 20-21w, so I personally wouldn't trust the idea from the NT scan.  From what I've seen on here, NT scan predictions seem to be about 50/50.

  • I was told at 11 weeks that I was having a girl.  I'm now nearly 22 weeks and they were right, it's a girl!

  • im confuse is it a boy or girl, this was taken at 13 wks
  • At my 13 week n/t scan, my doc asked if we were going to find out what we were having and then guessed girl.  she said "its a girl, don't paint the room pink, but its a girl" and it was based on this theory.  the office we went to deals only with high risk patients (I am not it is just who my doc sends us to) so their machines are docs are top notch

that said for 8 weeks until my 2nd u/s I did a ton of research on this theory.  Found it she is 100% girl; got a perfect shot.

I think you have to have a top notch u/s machine and a doc who is highly skilled and knows what this theory is.  It of course can be wrong and I didn't believe it until it was confirmed

  • My tech predicted boy at the 11 week NT scan (and was fairly certain due to the perpendicular position of the nub) and I've had a feeling all along that it is a boy but I'm trying very hard not to go out and buy little dude outfits until my 19 week ultrasound in September.
