What kind of blanket in crib?

If you so use a blanket in the crib.. tell me what kind please... I am torn as to letting my lo have one.  he is just a year old and I still get nervous. I have given him one at naps ( the crocheted) ones with holes.  My SIL says she used the waffle cotton blanket with satin trim fo rher kids from JC Penny.. but I cant find them anymore) Any recommendations? I do have aden and A ones that are breathable, but they are sooo big... My lo doesnt keep it on him. He ends up sleeping on the blanket or having his face near it, which scares me... ah..

Re: What kind of blanket in crib?

  • The only blanket we have in the crib is his little taggie blanket.  Sometimes he cuddles it and sometimes he uses it as a pillow.  He's such an acrobat in his sleep that there is no way he's keeping a blanket on top of him.

  • Chloe has a fleece blanket sometimes and sometimes a toddles sized comforter.  She keeps it on about half the time, the other half she uses it as a pillow.  We are probably going to give her a thin pillow in a few months since she sleeps so well when she is using something as a pillow.  She also has 2 teddy bear love blankets and 2 stuffed animals in her crib, she won't sleep without them.

  • E has a flannel receiving blanket with her.  She likes to bunch it up and cuddle with it.  Although some nights she pushes it out through the slats.

I feel OK about a little Taggie blanket, which is just a little square.  For warmth I used sleep sacks for DDs up until they were 2+.  DS is in a sleep sack.

  • You don't really need a blanket yet. We thought about doing it briefly, but DH did a quick Google search and saw that it's still recommended against for kids this young, so we nixed the idea.

  • DS sleeps with a small crocheted one. It has holes and is breathable. He has slept with it since we stopped swaddling (around 5mo). Half the time it's on the other side of the crib, so I can't say that he even needs one at this point.
