So it's been a stellar day in the news ladies, and oh so appropriate for 'infertility awareness month'. Perhaps I'm just in a bad mood because I've just read 3 posts in a row where AF reared her ugly head with fellow ttc'ers...or perhaps I've Just. About. Had. Enough. of men being f*cking retarded. Two cases in point:
Now look I don't care if you're religious, atheist, hell I carry a star wars lunch box and harbor a secret hope that somewhere there are still unicorns in this world--Believe whatever you want people just stay the f*ck out my uterus. This is hard enough as it is without being fired and called "a grave, immoral sinner" (case one)...and BONUS!! even if this whole crazy thing actually works after I've spent about a bajillion $$ and given what feels like 100 pints of blood--don't tell me I can't "harm my fetus" by testing an embryo for genetic disorders before implantation and then deciding 'oh hey wait! Actually I'd really rather NOT have a baby with trisomy 18' (which is the real unspoken threat underlying case two)--WAY TO GO TENNESSEE. STAY CLASSY.
So to recap: congressional men = dumbasses
catholic bishops = dumbasses
I need to go f*cking pound on something now.
/end rant
Re: Dumbasses. (vent)
"Rhoades told Herx, "The process of in vitro fertilization very frequently involves the deliberate destruction or freezing of human embryos," adding, "In vitro fertilization ... is an intrinsic evil, which means that no circumstances can justify it," according to the civil complaint. "
I guess I'll see everyone in hell!
"just stay the f*ck out my uterus." Amen to that! Politics and religion should have no say in what I can or can't do to my ute.
"Good grief. For not knowing sh!t about how pregnancy works, lawmakers sure like to govern how they think it should work" LOL! So true!

To Mrs. McIrish:
yes...from ancient tithings to 21st c. 1.99 prayer downloads there's nothing they won't do for a buck.
also: it's NEVER inappropriate to expose bigotry and intolerance. Awwww.... was DH embarrassed that you made the Monsignor "uncomfortable"? Well Hell, why on earth would you want to make someone who condemns you to damnation as a sinner COMFORTABLE?
And the feeling behind that spineless answer you got: oh no! But no! That's just the higher ups... Those are just the rules...That's the way THEY feel but I'm sure we can work something out...as long as you keep your dirty little secret to yourself.
Niiiiiice.
So here's an honest question for DH: What's more inappropriate:
A. Forcing the clergy to face an "uncomfortable" truth about their invented dogma and thereby, hoping enough might be persuaded to protest the injustice of it.
OR
B. Captioning your baby's baptism photo "Our Dirty Little Secret getting baptized!"
...cuz unless you do A, B will be technically correct.
also also: "wine makes me brave" LOL...in vino veritas! But you know deep down, its not the wine. You ARE brave, the wine's just a cover.
3rd IUI @ MAY 4--AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!!! (...in my uterus)
McIrish, you were right to ask him. I don't think you'd get the don't ask, don't tell response from all Catholic priests, however. The thoughtful ones wouldn't penalize the child no matter what they thought of how he/she was conceived. (Then again, I'm lucky enough to go to a fairly liberal parish where they'll baptize the children of openly gay parents, etc.) I'm not too fond of the bishops right now for many reasons, but I haven't left -- I'd rather stick around and call people on their bullsh!t rather than just fading away. If they want to drag me out kicking and screaming, they're welcome to try. In the meantime, the more of us who stand up and put a face on the ethical question, the better.
Fortunately, not every leader in the Catholic Church is myopically obsessed with what goes on in a woman's uterus.
These personhood for zygotes laws scare the ever-loving bajeezus out of me. There are some states considering laws that would give an unfertilized egg all the constitutional rights of an individual-- meaning that birth control would be illegal (you might be killing a potential human being every month!) and if a 12 year old girl was menstruating and did anything that could harm a potential fetus in case she got raped/had sex, she could be prosecuted for that activity. And these laws cover IVF as well. Every Republican presidential candidate has signed the Personhood for Zygotes promise (except for one who said he supported the cause).
There are already laws in some of these states that have allowed incidents straight out a Kafka novel-- a pregnant woman with a terminal illness who decided along with her husband and family that they would do whatever it took to keep her baby alive and healthy, but the doctor decided she needed to have an early c-section delivery to save the baby from the terminal illness and got a court order that allowed them to haul her in to the hospital to operate on her and both she and the baby died; another woman wanted a VBac and the hospital was able to haul her in-- handcuffed to the stretcher-- to perform a C-section on her; etc. etc. etc.
We are no longer individuals who SHARE our bodies with a baby-- we are only a vessel for a human being whose rights supercede our own, a vessel who is not trusted to make decisions about how we care for that vessel and the potential life inside it and requires a group of middle-aged men (doctors, lawmakers, judges, etc.) to make those decisions for us.
I am very afraid...
