pumping q

I want to start pumping once a day after first morning feed. DS eats on one side per feeding so I was going to pump the other side (I plan on feeding him one breast, burp him, change him, put him back to bed and then pump the other breast). Now at his next feeding which breast should I give him, the one that he fed on last or the pumped one? Am I planning this right? FTM and im so nervous about pumping and screwing up my supply.

Re: pumping q

  • I'm still at the hospital with my LO and she's only 2 days old but this is how they are having me do it.

Every 3 hours I go in to feed. We do each side for 10-15 minutes. After I go back to my room and pump for 10/15 minutes.

When I go back I always start with the side I finished with BF on.

The nurse said the second breast usually doesn't get as much attention as the first. So there is more left over from the previous time.

Don't know if it helps any but that's how they are having me do it.

  • Pumping wouldn't screw up your supply. It would probably make more come in. I wish I could answer this but I was an basically an exclusive pumper when I was bfing.

I would give him the pumped one because pumping doesn't empty the breast as well as your lo would.

This.  At least, that's how I'm doing it.

  • As PPs said, I was told to BF on the pumped side.
