Ok, so I am a first time mom and my husband and I have decided to cloth diaper. I have a good collection going already and the last thing I was needing to buy was a diaper sprayer. I have been planning to buy the bumgenius sprayer, but with soooooo many things to buy for our little one I am trying to save money wherever possible. So my question is if diaper sprayers are really necessary and if not what do you do as an alternative while cleaning? I am a major germ freak and the idea of just putting a diaper full of poop in the washing machine freaks me out! But at the same time we live in a little 1950's cottage so I don't have a sink to wash the diapers out in besides my kitchen sink ... and that freaks me out too! So ... please give me all your ideas and opinions!!!

Re: Diaper Sprayer?
You don't need a sprayer until you start solids, so you can put it off for a few months. I would have quit without mine, though. My baby still has terrible lumpy liquid poos that are just nasty to deal with without a sprayer.
Get over it with the newborn poos. You'll be changing every 2 hours or less. You don't need another step. Wash a load and you'll see that everything comes out great. You can get rid of any stains by sun drying.

You won't need a diaper sprayer until your LO starts solid food. That is at least 6 months away. Sometimes sprayers come up on sites like babysteals.com or craigslist. Keep your eye out during the next few months, and you can get one for less.
EBF/EFF poo is water soluable and doesn't need to be removed before putting your diapers in the wash.
Other alternatives to a sprayer are: disposable liners, scraping the poo with a spatula, dunk and swish in the toilet, etc...
