Mama cloth PP

Did anyone use mama cloth for the PP period? Does anyone use any sort of mama cloth or reusable items during normal periods? I am very curious to learn more. I would love to be more environmentally friendly but I have a feeling this might be too much for me. I am not sure I want to invest in it cuz I always wear tampons. I have not used a pad since I was 12.

Re: Mama cloth PP

  • The only reason I personally would try mama cloth is if the regular pads start to irritate my skin.  Last time I was just fine but who knows...this pregnancy has been soooo different.

This exactly, I've considered it because pads REALLY irritate me. Luckily this time my PP bleeding was done by 7ish days and I only wore a pantyliner after that and only when leaving the house although it was never needed. I"m hoping between nursing and the IUD I don't see a period for a long long time!

It won't help PP but for regular periods what about the Diva cup? I have a friend who loves it, not sure if its too much for me either, but more comparable to tampons.

  • I love my menstrual cups for regular periods. I think they are so much more comfortable than tampons because they don't wick alll moisture out like cotton does. I have a diva cup and a moon cup. The diva is softer, which I prefer. I'm nervous about postpartum pads because I haven't used a pad (or liner - I was lucky and didn't get pregnancy discharge) since my first period twenty years ago. Gross.

I never even really considered the fact that those cups would not cause dryness the way that tampons do. Thats a plus. Yeah, I haven't had to use a liner or anything and have not used a pad since my first period. I am really not looking forward to pp bleeding.

  • I'm planning on trying the diva cup after my box of tampons runs out. I do have a cloth panty liner that is ok but I don't like how it slides around too much for my liking.

It is advised to change your pad every time you pee when you are bleeding PP, so that could be a lot of pads that you'd need on hand. For me, it wasnt worth the investment in mama cloth for PP b/c nornally i use tampons. I do have mama cloth pantyliners and honestly i dont like them that much b/c they move around so much (only have one snap). I am sensitive to pads, but this time i used stayfree "cooling" pads and didnt have irritation like with #1.

Thanks. Its looking like I won't be using the mama cloth, PP anyway. I might give it a try when AF comes back.

  • I am planning to use Party In My Pants overnight pads after the first week or so. I used the regular ones for the red menace before and use them now when I have spotting. I don't like tampons, and my H insists the bathroom garbage be taken out twice a day if there are bloody pads in the trash because of the blood smell, so it's just easier to go the cloth route and throw them in wash. I can't say yet whether the overnights are absorbent enough, but I had the regulars catch an awful lot of stuff without leaking, so I am optimistic.
