Cloth Diapering

very hard water - what do I need to do?

I've posted before about leaky BG 4.0's. I stripped and that seemed to help but now about a month later I'm encountering the problem again. I live abroad so don't have access to the mainstream detergents. I recently tested the water and it came back as very hard. What should I be doing to help take care of my diapers?

Also, relatedly, do you all clean your machine from time to time? How?

Sorry for the newbie questions but I appreciate any help!

  • Do you have access to borax anywhere? I use it with our hard water and I haven't had any issues. good luck!

  • Some people use calgon with hard water.

I actually use tide and do a rng soak once a month to keep the build up and stink at bay.

Is Calgon the dishwashing machine detergent? I think we have that under a different name here. What is an RNG soak?

I don't know if I can get it here. I would have to ask around to find out the Turkish word for it. How do you use it? Do you put it in where the detergent goes? I have a front-loader.

  • You would put the borax in with the detergent.  Oh, Calgon is a water softener.... don't want you to use the wrong stuff Big Smile

Thank you Brenda Lou! I asked my husband but he didn't know about borax. I will ask some of my Turkish friends who have lived in the States. I hope I can find it!
