Cloth Diapering

When did you start using a diaper sprayer?

DS is approaching 7 months and we just started him on some solids. (So far he's only had avocado and earth's best oatmeal cereal) - I'm already noticing a change in his poops. When is it necessary to start rinsing them off? And...after you spray, do you ring them out, or just throw them in the wetbag soaking wet?

Re: When did you start using a diaper sprayer?

  • I started as soon as we first put solid food in front of him (BLWing).  I figured, why not just start then?  Plus, he was taking bites pretty early on, and I could see the chunks of food in there from the get go.

I generally wring them out a bit before putting in the wet bag.  Not a lot, but just to get the bulk of the water out...like, just enough so it's not dripping from the toilet to the potty seat/bucket I put it in to carry to the wet bag.

  • I started when DS was a newborn, then we moved into a rental home where the diaper sprayer didn't work with the toilets and for some reason we didn't consider changing the hoses, so we took a year break from diaper spraying and then started again when we moved again. I never wrung them out after spraying.
  • I leave them wet.  It seems to cut down on the smell for me.  It could be my imagination but it seems to work.

  • I started right when we started giving DD solids.  I figured I might as well get used to it, even though it took a little bit of time for her poop to show a difference.  Unless I've really had to saturate the diaper with the sprayer for a very messy poop (and I will wring out a bit of the water), I just put the CD into the pail wet.
