We've been keeping receipts and copies of checks for all our adoption expenses, but it occurred to me today that I should maybe be keeping track of mileage too.
Our agency and our EM are both about 100 miles from our home and having just completed the sixth round trip, I'm wondering if anyone knows if miles traveled count toward expenses. I would assume that they would at the federal rate, but just wondering if anyone knew or had experience with this.
Re: travel/mileage and tax credit
That is a good question!
I asked the almighty Google... From what I read (below), it sounds like if your expenses are likely to be less than the tax credit ($13k-ish for 2011), then keeping track of your mileage could be important. If your expenses are going to be well over $13k, then mileage probably won't make a difference in your credit, since your receipts from the agency are likely to be enough.

Check with your accountant to be sure (obviously).
