Enfamil or Similac??

I used Enfamil with both of my other children and would like to use the same for this baby, but after signing up months ago for both rewards programs, I have still yet to see any free samples or coupons from Enfamil.  Similac has sent two free cans of formula and numerous $5 off coupons.  I am seriously considering using Similac.

Has anyone ever used both before and found they like one better than the other?  I don't mean to sound like I just want to switch because of free stuff, but the $5 coupons help a lot financially when having to buy several cans of formula a month.  Just wondered what others' opinions were on choosing which formula to use.

My experience has been that they don't actually start sending the coupons until after the due date you entered. That said, I used Enfamil (and coupons) with DS until I ran out of gift card money. Then I switched to the Target generic equivalent, which was still cheaper than Enfamil with the coupon. Target also has good generics of the Similac brands. If you compare the ingredients they are very nearly identical (I think there's one line on the list that is slightly off). All formula goes through the same regulation, so generic is a good way to go, IMO.

  • i haven't recieved anything from either of them yet!

anyhow - a friend of mine had a good tip... they sell the hard plastic tubs taht are reusable - and you can buy the double pack of refills at bj's or sam's club w/ coupons for much cheaper then buying the hard plastic container time after time.  i had no idea but was pleasantly surprised to see this is totally factual!

    good luck!

  • When I had to switch DS to formula, the doctor told me to start with enfamil... It was HORRIBLE--he screamed and screamed... then we switched to Gentlease-- same situation.

Finally--we switched to Similac sensitive and all was well.

Gentlease--the proteins are broke down to help with issues
    Sensitive--milk proteins are taken out

Also, DS has lactose intolerance. He now drinks lactose free milk... so just because this was my issues--doesn't mean it will be others.

FWIW, I received two samples from enfamil and a bunch of checks at the beginning of the week. I plan to breastfeed so I'm actually giving them to a friend...

  • I prefer Similac. DS was very sensitive and was on Similac sensitive, even the alumentum (really expensive stuff) was a bad reaction with him. Enfamil made him projectile vomit all over everything.
