IUI confusion...Day 16 with no trigger yet?!

Hi ladies - I am going in at some point this week for my second IUI (unmedicated, trigger only) but am really confused at this point.  We are male factor and I have normal cycles and I think I have always ovulated around day 14.  With our first IUI it was done on Day 13; I don't think the follicle was very big but don't know the measurement.

This cycle I am now onto Day 14 and the follie was measuring 15 this morning. My instructions were to come back Wednesday morning (Day 16) for monitoring again.

Does this seem at all normal that one month my IUI was done on day 13, and this month I'll be going for monitoring on Day 16 and not even having done the trigger?

IUI is new to me...before these we had done IVF and a FET. I feel like this can't be normal, especially since I have always appeared to have normal cycles.

Any experience or insight is very appreciated - thanks!

  • Not everyone ovulates the same day each cycle. There are cycles that can be off - even if you are usually regular. Monitoring the follicle growth and hormone levels tell so much more than circling a date on a calender ever will.

    Good luck!

  • How did your doc decide on day 16?  Have you been using OPKs or anything to measure your LH activity?  The OPKs and monitoring are the best bet for timing.

  • my RE does not trigger until a follie is an 18 or bigger (mature)... i forget the time it takes to go from 15-18 but i'm guessing your doc thinks it's 2 days....

    best of luck!

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

They haven't decided to do it on day 16 yet, just bring me in for monitoring that day. Since I'll have no instructions to trigger before then, I guess my IUI couldn't be any earlier than Day 17. It just seems so late when it was on Day 13 last time. Maybe my cycles aren't as regular as I thought they were... Huh?

  • This is all according to my RE, but with iui the follie size needs to be between 20-24 on an unmedicated cycle and between 18-20 on a medicated cycle to be considered mature. The follie grows between 1-2mm/day. So, based on your current measurements, you should be ready to trigger at your next appointment! I think it sounds normal. My iui's have all been done on different days. I am like you, where I assumed the meds would make each cycle more regular. They've been close, but not exactly the same. Hope this helps!

Thanks so much!! I was actually thinking of you because if this cycle works, LO #2 will be due on DS's 2nd birthday lol

Thanks everyone, makes me feel much better to know this doesn't sound problematic.
