NBR: where should she dump the dude?

A good friend of mine has been with the same guy for 5 years.  He isn't a bad guy, but the relationship isn't going anywhere, so she is done.  This weekend we were discussing how to end it.  She doesn't feel that phone or email are appropriate, so that leaves in-person.

The thing is, she only sees him once a week.  He drives into town on Saturday night and stays until Sunday morning. They never go to his place - he lives in the burbs with his parents.   

Should she wait until Saturday and end it shortly after he arrives at her place? Wait until Sunday morning when it won't be embarrassing for him to return home to his parents' house? Call him Saturday afternoon and have him meet her someplace out int the burbs to end it on neutral turf?

I, personally, would do it before the weekend started. If it were me, I'd feel horrible pretending all Saturday into Sunday that things were alright, while the entire time I'm plotting our breakup.

I like the idea of calling him Saturday and suggesting a neutral meet-up place.

I think she should call him first to tell him they need to have a serious talk in person. This way he his not blindsided an has an idea of whats going to happen. Then meet in a neutral location, but not so public as to be embarrassing if there are intense emotions.

I agree with both of you.  The neutral location meetup was my suggestion.  But her concern is that as soon as she says that they need to meet to talk that he will know something is up and will ask her to just tell him on the phone.  And then she will end up breaking up on the phone, which she doesn't want to do.  

The other issue is that he has a set of keys to her place.  She owns a two family with a rental unit downstairs.  If they breakup over the phone and she doesn't get the keys back from him, then she will have to re-key all the locks, which is kind of a hassle.
