How many ounces to pump?

My daughter is 11 weeks and I'm wondering about how much I should pump for a bottle?

I'm giving my DD 4 oz..  If you're super worried about waste, then do several 2 oz bottles and let the caregiver use what they need.  My ped said she should take between 4-5 oz.

EBF babies consume on average 25 oz a day from 1 month - 6 months (or until they begin solids) so a good rule of thumb is to leave about an ounce for every hour you'll be apart. There is a good calculator on Kellymom.com that might be helpful for you too.

My understanding for a more accurate oz amount is to take your baby's weight in kilos, multiply by 6 and divide by the # of times a day they eat (typically between 7 - 10) - that will give you the # of ounces per bottle. If you give your baby a bottle frequently enough, you will also start to see patterns - like my DS typically takes a small bottle in early afternoon (2 1/2 - 3 oz) but larger amounts first thing in the morning or in the evening (4 - 5oz).

If I only gave DS a bottle with 2 oz. in it because I was going to be gone for 2 hours, I would have one very frazzled caregiver and one screaming banshee baby!
